Now

Updated on 2024-09-28 Saturday from Tokyo, Japan

Cooler temperatures (that means daytime highs of less than thirty Celsius) have at last reached the Tokyo area. This summer’s been hot and humid. I’m glad to see it waning now.

Here are September’s Now moments:

Finished reading “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood and started “The Three-Body Problem” by Liu Cixin. (Books I list here are for reading on morney train journeys, although I sometimes pick them up in the evening too if I have nothing else important going on.)

Retired my workhorse HP inkjet printer after said company’s “firmware update” (which resembles trojan horse malware, according to “this Electronic Engineering Journal article”), bricked it.
I replaced it yesterday with a competitor’s laser printer at a fraction of the inkjet’s original cost. All things considered, I doubt I will ever use HP products again or recommend them to others. I guess Cory Doctorow’s “enshittification” bug wins again, alas.

Experimenting with Google Large Multi-Modal (LMM) A.I. in the form of https://notebooklm.google.com. I uploaded one of my time travel short stories (“Clocking Time”) as the input source. Check out these brief audio-only podcast results which I exported and then uploaded to “Spotify” and “YouTube”.

(Clocking Time is available for free at my publishing site, https://jfrpublishing.com)

That’s it for this month.

The next NOW update will be published on 28 October, 2024.

Be well, and be happy.
