Even now, much of politics is advertising—and a candidate’s ability to explain themselves in 30 to 60 seconds can make or break a campaign.
On “2WAY Tonight,” former Democratic Congressman Joe Cunningham and former Republican Congressman Garret Graves joined me for a strategy session, debate, and ad review. We dug into what makes a political message work, how candidates define themselves, and how campaigns turn complicated arguments into ads voters actually remember.
We also examined whether Senator Jon Ossoff should apologize for his remarks toward a female member of President Trump’s staff, Trump’s increasingly harsh tone toward reporters inside the White House, and what former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe’s arguments about the Democrats’ new nominating process could mean for 2028.
The Democratic calendar matters—and tinkering with it could have consequences that aren’t immediately obvious. Joe, Garret, and I looked at the known and unknown effects of the new process, along with the role a responsible press should play in covering the early races.
And we closed with Flock cams, Trump, Iran, and the questions surrounding the USS Lincoln.
