I keep putting off writing about bodies but pretty much all I think about is bodies. I always want my writing to feel like it’s easy and deep but goes somewhere, and I just didn’t know and continue not to know where this is going. I want to have some definitive piece of writing about bodies but why wait until I as a person or we as a culture have figured it out? I think you can handle me at my most unpolished.
One of the clear signs that I was getting older was whenever I decided I no longer cared about new music. Like, I just tapped out. Maybe 30? I made some kind of vaguely conscious decision that I didn’t want or need to keep up with everything and music stopped compelling me, pretty much. So I know who Ariana Grande is because I’m fluent in pop culture but I have no investment in her as a celebrity. (I was actually sitting at a table of lawyers at a wedding last weekend and they found out my job and asked me which celebrities I liked meeting and was like, It’s not really about liking or disliking and realized that was a really disappointing answer for them and instead told them about the dumbest celebrity I had ever met, a singer/actress who asked me what the word “maternal” meant.)
