A nurse, running on her third consecutive shift, hasn’t eaten in nine hours. She’s managing seventeen patients simultaneously, fielding calls from insurance companies demanding pre-authorizations for medications her patients needed yesterday, while a hospital administrator hovers nearby reminding her about “throughput metrics.” She looks directly into the camera for just a half-second. That look says everything.
