This is a quick personal statement of the creative path that works for ME.
If it seems kinda all-or-nothing, that’s because it’s so limited in scope (MY work).
I’m an artist & an educator — This policy speaks specifically to my professional work in ART and EDUCATION.
I’m deliberately NOT explaining my positions here;
That can come later (in follow-up comics for literally EACH panel).
Meanwhile, I’m posting this as a top-level policy statement on my site (alongside my BIO and ARTIST STATEMENT) for clarity & consistency w/ program hosts & project partners.
“I DO NOT USE A.I.”
At first, I felt like this should be more specific — “I do not use AI in the production of my artwork” &c. — But that just sounds watered-down & loop-holey. I really DON’T use AI, & I go out of my way to NOT use it, as a personal lifestyle choice.
Keep it simple — Say the thing.“ALL MY ART IS MADE...”
I don’t like using the passive voice here, especially when we’re emphasizing human agency. But “I MAKE ALL MY ART / BY HUMAN HANDS” just sounds kinda creepy.“3 BASIC GUIDELINES”
These aren’t “breach of contract” gotchas -- This just puts hosts on notice that I do not want to promote my programs using AI-generated artwork meant to LOOK like my art &c. &c. It’s a fast-paced world & people take some crazy shortcuts. (Comics about this = coming soon.)“REPLACING ART...” &c.
Lots to say about these items, too.... Coming soooon.“THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS…”
…other than spending your entire lifetime practicing & celebrating human agency — Which is actually a pretty short cut through time & space, cosmically speaking. Enjoy. 🌠
