This meeting of the self-mentorship group initially felt like a lost evening for me. I had less time to head out and make photos for this project this time round. That was entirely my own doing. The past few weeks I was far too busy with other things living in my head that needed to get out. But more on that in the coming weeks.
The few times I did get out within the city limits, I played with composition and captured one specific area, the Redichemsewaard, in different ways. More as an exercise for myself, to see what works and what doesn’t, and to gather feedback from my fellow photographers.
The evening itself was great fun, but photographically it was a lean one. Several photographers brought little or no work with them. All of them were struggling to find the inspiration to push on with their chosen subject. Which means they’ll come back all the stronger for the next meeting after the summer. I’m sure of it!
And now, the photos.
The first three photos are similar, each with a different background. I feel the third one works best with the nearly visible fence.
Here I captured the far side of the Lek in the most minimalist way I could. A dyke, with a lone cyclist (hardly visible at this small format) on it as counterweight.
The harbour and railway bridge of Culemborg, seen from a groyne in the river.
A wider view with all of Culemborg's landmarks in it. The blunt tower and the pointed one, the town hall, the windmill and the railway bridge.
The railway bridge from a completely different composition.
The footpaths in the floodplains, trodden flat by people and cows.
Overhanging branches forming what looks like a cage.
See you next week.
