The ingredients that make my dream kitchen...

I waited 4 years before I could create my dream kitchen here at Admirals - primarily a budgeting decision - I needed to save up before I could make the kitchen happen but goodness was it worth waiting for! So, I thought I’d talk through the thoughts behind the design, what I love about it and if there’s anything I’d change!

There’s also a bit of a caveat because of course this is the dream kitchen here at Admirals… but actually is quite compromised as a space due to the architecture of the room and building so, whilst it absolutely is my dream kitchen, were I designing a space absolutely from scratch, there would be major changes of course!

But, whilst not a small room by any stretch of the imagination… when you look at the footprint (I’ll pop a floor plan below), kitchens, typically need walls to stick stuff against and they’re pretty significantly lacking in this space. Of the 4 walls… one is largely missing (being the huge double doors through to the living room), directly opposite is a curved wall/bay with 2 windows and an external set of doors onto the roof terrace… the 3rd wall has a very large fireplace and chimney breast (being listed I wouldn’t have been able to remove this - even if I’d wanted to - which I never would!)… which leaves 1 wall, about 18ft long to fit things against!

It’s actually why the ‘butlers pantry’ is so important (and for those of you on instagram, keep your eyes peeled tomorrow morning as I’m going to be sharing the finished wallpaper in there - though I’ll give you a little peek at the bottom of this article to whet your appetite!)… because I’d always made decisions in the kitchen, knowing the pantry is going to work hand in glove with the kitchen, easing pressure by being home to certain less often used things… allowing the kitchen to make more sense given the space available!
