You probably know by now, that I like old houses… actually, I like almost old anything! The craftsmanship, the aesthetic, the attention to detail and the honest, real materials all make me very happy… as do the stories these old buildings or items feel like they hold within them.
But… in the main, whilst I love my Georgian home, I don’t want to live in it as the Georgians would have… actually that’s a lie… were I VASTLY more wealthy, and could afford to have the many, many staff looking after my every whim and need, being cooked for and waited on hand and foot… I could probably cope very nicely indeed!
And really I suppose that leads nicely into my point. Admirals would once have required an army (should say Navy really) of people to run it… to keep it warm… clean it… maintain it… to cook and serve and garden - and now it’s just the two of us - who both work full time (and the rest!), whilst also trying to restore the house, sort the garden AND live as the youth of today might call it ‘our best lives’, making time for one another, to make things special, to travel and adventure… it’s busy - and would be impossible were it not for a little bit of help!
