Our recent Manufacturing Talks Web Show and Podcast guest Sam Gregg of the AIER shared a superb article on X today that prompted me to revisit the situation with German industry.
The article, “Germany’s long industrial decline,” by Karl-Friedrich Israel, detailed the multiple public policy initiatives that combined to create the undeniable drag on today’s German industry over the past few decades.
Israel catalogs how German politicians have layered on regulations and energy mandates while conducting a wholesale policy shift away from supporting domestic manufacturing competitiveness into what now appears as an assault on a broad front on the ability of German producers to compete globally.
