Hey Party People,

While we can not ignore the atrocities the rogue state of Isn’treal and their proxy, the US, are continuing to do… we can keep closer ties with our friends, family, and loved ones, we can show up where ever is needed for those around us, especially those whose lives are impacted directly.

I am preparing for what seems to be a monumental shift in my practice to me, but in reality, it’s not that huge. The second half of the year will be dedicated to a full research on performance; as a means of research, as a medium, as assembly, as a means to have a conversation. This, while weaving it into my artistic process and questioning the very essence of art making as a “social practice.” I’ve already started to lay the foundation:

I recently participated in Tiziano Cruz’s workshop which helped me feel better in the shoes I wear. (... is this a thing people say?) We worked on further situating our point of view as artists interested in doing some sort of social critique, and on how art can demystify our very own political agendas. Sometimes we tend to overthink things, especially as artists. This week of thinking with others, in spanish, about our practice, our values, our privilege, and our process was reassuring. We asked who is around the table? again, Who is listening? Who is missing? and what affect does my practice have on my surroundings, be they people or institutions.

Next BROWN CATS meeting at Globe Aroma, from 12-14h.

The novel I keep talking about is nothing new. It’s also not a simple project to describe, since I see it as my masterpiece. I’m making art by breaking this one piece into fragments and using those fragments to explore the many things my brain is questioning or thinking about. I don’t think there will ever be a moment where I’ll say “ah, it’s finished,” it’s the ongoing process that I want to explore. So whenever you see me show some work, it will, 99% of the time, be related to SHARE, the novel I’ve been writing. Sometimes it will be a short play, sometimes a series of costumes, or a performance of some sort, sometimes just a poem.

I will be doing a reading part of the introduction to my novel …in the dark at artist commons part of a new event where half of the night will be in silence, and the second half in darkness!

I’ve noticed we have been fooled once again by forces that try to normalize our existence. By ‘our’ I mean the alphabet mafia, the queers, the weirdos, outcasts. We have been coerced to believe that care and joy are what will bring us somewhere… I don’t even know fucking where. That being a welcoming and open community will make things better for us. I CALL BULLSHIT. We are pushed to the side, and then told we should be welcoming those that push us aside if we want to be respected. I CALL BULLSHIT. Let’s come together and talk things out, “like civilized humans” GO FUCK YOURSELF. I’m over the care olympics that have only normalized policing ourselves, flaunting ethical and moral flags left and right, and for what? To prove to someone we are better than them because we hold intellectual judgment on a pedestal? I CALL BULLSHIT. These are tools of the oppressive class and we need to DESTROY THEM. We are a pest, let’s embrace this, keep haters at bay, scare them away.
