As we roll into summer, I often come back to the Annie Dillard quote:
“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. What we do with this hour, and that one, is what we are doing.”
And yes, we have to pay our bills, clean our bathrooms, wait in doctors offices and in lines and on hold. Much of life comes at us, but we do also have some choice in how we spend our days.
And when I get to decide, I come back to the question: why am I doing this?

When I started working for myself way back in 2013, part of my “why” was the intention of having time and flexibility for my (then just imagined) children. I wanted more choice over how I spent my days.
I am still grateful for the flexibility, but the “why” of my work has expanded.
I’ve seen the magic that happens when women gather. I’ve been transformed by being in circles where there is deep sharing and even deeper understanding.
This year, our 10th of hosting Mamas Circles and our 5th of Motherhood: Redefined we wrote about Why We Gather. Here’s part of our “why:”
We are not here to fix mothers. We are here to create conditions where we do not have to live in constant survival mode.
When mothers are regulated, resourced, and allowed to be fully human, we shape the world, not through force, but through how we live, love, and relate.
In our weekly circles we connect, grow, challenge our assumptions, offer unwavering support, and provide a safe and welcoming container to hold it all.
And this year, for the first time, we’re going to take that space and expand it over a whole weekend. A chance to step away to the blue ridge mountains of West Virginia and have 3 full days to choose how we spend our time.
Dig clay out of the earth and make pottery with our hands.
Share delicious meals.
Move our bodies together in yoga practices.
Play music, sing, laugh, and rest.
Look up at the stars.
Wander through forests and fields.
Why?
Because there’s something deeply powerful about being in the company of other women. Women who want to create, relax, connect, move, and choose how we spend our lives.

In these open, supportive communities for moms and pre-crawling babies, we talk about changing identities, relationships, and how to get through the day (and night) with little ones. Ongoing on Fridays at noon
Baby and Me Yoga combines postpartum strength-building exercises and breath-based relaxation for adults as well as gentle movement for babies. In this one-hour class, you’ll get the chance to bond with your baby, move, stretch, build strength, and connect with fellow new parents. Mothers, fathers, caregivers, and babies all welcome. Classes are designed for babies 6 weeks to pre-crawling. Postpartum parents are welcome to attend without their babies.
Looking ahead to fall, we’ll be adding additional cohorts of Pregnancy Circle, Men with Babies, Fatherhood as Path, Finding Your Center, and Navigating Neurodiversity Circle. If you’re interested in any of these groups, please complete the interest form on our webiste or comment below and we’ll let you know when they are scheduled!
We offer all of our circles and groups on a sliding scale, and have a robust scholarship program. If you’d like to attend and have financial constraints, please reach out and we’ll find a way. We also accept contributions to our scholarship program here.
