For a Good Time, Call Resistance

Resistance gives me an ace up my sleeve, a ticket to ride, a Hail Mary pass on most of the pressing obligations of my existence. Because Resistance ultimately has my back. Give me a due date, a contract, a duty that must be achieved. Resistance says, Whoa, Nellie. This is not the boss of you. Schluff that off and do what you want. Here’s a good idea. You’ll like this better. It’s good for you. Forget that restraint on your freewheeling personality. It’s You Time, baby. Live free or die.

Only have two weeks to finish that project?

You should definitely go see a play, visit a museum, find that bookstore in a neighborhood you’ve been wanting to explore. These are all artist dates, right? I’m still being creative, no? Ultimately, it will help me approach the work better. It’s going to be good for the final result.

Signed a contract for your 100-odd pages and have no real outline for the next 100 pages?

You work better under pressure. So, for now, take it easy and when you absolutely, positively, no-question-about-it have-to-muster, you will. Until then, did the new episode of (insert any TV series name here) come out?

That writer you like just published another book. Already?

Amazing. You should look to see if they are reading anywhere, even a long car ride away, and attend. Oh, yes and of course, buy their book. Then, read it. Because you’re a good literary citizen. You’ll get back to your project right afterwards.

Father’s Day coming up?

Ah, it’s only June 5. I have like a week, plenty of time. Go see Mission Impossible. Tom Cruise never disappoints.

The laundry is out of control, piling up, spilling everywhere. Do it?

Come on, it’s beautiful out. Don’t waste this day with mind-numbing tasks. Wait until you’re about to go to bed, then put a load on. By morning, you’ll just have to remember to transfer it to the dryer. Talk about gaming the laundry; you’ve got this down.

Taking a nap every day, as soon as you come home from class, instead of working out, taking a walk, doing a little yoga?

Your rising sign is in Saturn and Neptune right now, so you’re tired. These are draining planets. Just wait until they transit into some other house in your chart. Take the nap.

Not easy to say no to that logic. So, yeah, resistance. It gets a bad rap when all it’s trying to do is keep you joyous, happy, free.

I’ll leave the state of my affairs for another day’s subject. Resistance is telling me not to give in to any moral or lesson here. Off I go.
