This one is a deeeeep dive on the current state of the music industry with truly one of the most seasoned industry veterans in Nashville:
Former Rounder Records President, John Strohm.
John served as the president of the iconic Nashville label, Rounder Records from 2017 to 2022 where he was responsible for signing superstar acts including Billy Strings and Sierra Ferrell.
John also served as Senior Counsel at Loeb & Loeb LLP where he assisted in the development of clients including Bon Iver, Sturgill Simpson, Alabama Shakes, Dawes, Julien Baker, and more.
Prior to his career as an executive, John spent years as a touring artist playing with punk rock bands - Blake Babies and The Lemonheads.
In this interview, John shares his behind-the-scenes stories running Rounder Records, his views on the label consolidation taking place, and his views on what it takes to really develop a superstar act.
I know it’s easy for us artists to make record labels into a boogeyman, so it was really refreshing to sit down with a genuinely good-hearted industry executive and get their perspective on the industry (and even push back on some of my personal critiques).
