Well if you have been here for a while, you know that Danielle and I love a good themed party. Always have, always will, baby. In college I would frequently get a kiddy pool and do beach themed nights (in the -20 Canadian winter), or give a stupid theme to a generally regular party (like secret Santa Halloween in the summer where everyone has to pick a costume for a random other party goer).

literally in the living room of my third floor apartment (I hated this place, it always had super uncanny valley vibes and my roommates were never home so it was really lonely and dark)
I was dressed like him and he was dressed like a clown themed toddler so i blurred him for the good of the blog

Sometimes people would show up and I would be the only one in theme (and my boyfriend at the time who reluctantly would wear some sort of coconut bra I would have picked up earlier that day being a good sport).

After I moved to San Francisco, and we moved into this insane house on top of a nightclub by accident, we started getting really creative with it, and throwing some of our strangest parties yet. And then they were so fun, large and extravagant, Gatsby style events, we made our blogs to recount the ideas and remember the party forever.

After about two years of posting on here, now there are a couple of you that read these, and some of you have found our party ideas, and decided to replicate them for yourself. Here are some of the best ones that I have been sent, anthology style, which also is kinda exciting to think that now we have ran so many events that I can not only run an anthology of all of the events that we ran that were weird, but for each one of them have a random person somewhere in America that has read this entire 11 minute stupid article I wrote about it somewhere online, and organized a bunch of their friends around a passing thought Danielle and I had and decided to hang onto. That is so cool guys. Good job Chris Best and me and Danielle.

TLDR; like the show survivor, every 15 minutes someone is voted out of the party and has to go home, or do a series of challenges that you put together for redemption.

Someone ran their thanksgiving like that, which is one of the best things I can think of to make sure that your thanksgiving keeps everyone on their best behaviour. I do not know about you guys but sometimes we have had people call the cops on people they are mad at at thanksgiving for showing up to my grandmothers house uninvited and then there were like brawls on the yard and stuff and then my grandmother would be like let’s all get along it’s a holiday and everyone would go inside pissed and eat and then the cops would go home and tell us to be on our best behaviour and to knock it off. But I feel like this also is the entire point of thanksgiving so idk. Also these are Canadian cops so you have to consider that they are nicer more reasonable people.

which I think may have actually made my family thanksgivings growing up a little less chaotic actually

She said that she had a good time and that she timed it that the last guest would leave right when she wanted to party to end. A move I really liked, because it annoys me when I go to the trouble of having a good specific schedule and then people just ignore it before my very eyes.

I want to run this one back soon but need a pretty lenient location and host because it does get kind of sloppy pretty fast. If anyone of you want a bunch of really drunk people trying to be on their best behaviour inside their house please let me know, my email is on my website and my substack dms are always open (even if I take months to get back to them by accident sometimes). Danielle and I have been saying we need a Shakespearean themed party to kick the next season off.

TLDR; we thought it would be fun if everyone got a pair of handcuffs and had to handcuff someone when they got there, do a shot to unlock them. Complete with a string board detective themed wall with some of our friends photos, up to no good around town.

Our handcuff party as a recap. Danielles article on the matter (and her other parties she did before we met)

borrowed graphic from danielles incredible post about all of our great parties please go and see her blog for more proofreading and better imagery
our very complex set of prison rules because every good party needs a set of extremely specific rules

The girl that replicated it…

She made her own string board of crimes and party-goers for them to come and see their crime associated with them on the wall. They had an evolution of our party, because there are now prison bribes in play, so it really is moving true to form with the American prison system. They got their own judge costume (the most important part of the night arguably).

here is her string board wall she put together for her event
you have no idea how happy this Substack DM made me

God I love having a legacy. I understand the need of man to create something that outlives them now. That is my handcuff party. All of you reading this no pressure but it would be soooooo cool if you wanted to throw a party themed like one of these parties and then tell me about it, or invite me please and Danielle please because I am pretty awkward at parties alone.

TLDR; a parody event of run clubs where people could come and sit in the park with strangers as opposed to running. With the idea being that most people are just in run clubs to get some.

People asking us if they can start their own sit club, in their own towns. (I thought that it would be funny to franchise this, and try to sell the license to people to see if they would pay, but Danielle pointed out that it would be more fun to allow everyone who wants to have one to have a chapter, to maximize how many chapters we have, which I do fundamentally agree with).

god i love a partiful dm (MOST OF THE TIME, sometimes they are an insane serial killer message from this one guy who kept trying to come to our survivor party, or from this one guy I went on a couple dates with and then neither of us were like urgently interested but vaguely interested and then he requested me to refer him on raya and i got jealous and asked to go on a date and he said yeah and then i didn’t care anymore and then we ghosted it and then just recently he just got on the app and i had a photo of us on it from a different party because now we have become kinda acquainted and see one another around and went on this weird adventure one night with danielle (story for another time) because we thought it was funny to partiful crush one another and we invite eachother to every random event we have on partiful and sometimes he will come because he is a chiller, anyways, then he messaged me on raya and said that he liked the pic of us and we looked good together and i told him that he shouldnt be on the app because i was gatekeeping him but anyways these partiful dms are cool

I ended up taking some meetings with people and said that they could feel free to open some chapters and wanted to get around to making a website where we could showcase the world map of all of the chapters and the flagship event. It also would be good if we are going to allow others to spread our messaging to have somewhere we are in charge of that we can have final say over what we are trying to convey with our stupid club about sitting.

We generally are of the mentality that why would we run back a scheme when we can just do something new and exciting? We do not care all of that much about sitting, moreso just making fun or runners and joking around and stuff. The only one Danielle really wants to do again is Strippers for Charity and that is pretty understandable. The next one is just going to be ‘when she feels hot enough’ to do the next one which also is super valid. Anyways yeah my dms are open if you want to open your own chapter of sit club.

Michigan themed party: link here. My friend Verda, who is very cool and throws these robot fighting ring parties in her warehouse in soma in SF is from Michigan and decided to throw a party to honour it. Because of my continued education at the University of Michigan, this was right up my alley (I do not actually think I have been inside the state but that does not matter, because Michigan is a state of mind to me).

you say eth i say anol

Now these are not all of the parties that we have done, there are many a theme we have done that have not yet been replicated by the depths of our internet following. I also am going to completely breeze past to fact that I was not invited to ANY of these parties that literally took our themes but okay whatever it’s not like it hurt my feelings at all.

If one of you wanted to throw one of these and then invite us that would be kinda cool I guess, and if you didn’t want to do that you could at least just like write one little Substack article about what happened and the rules and the progression so I can save it for the lore of this party theme and the Chapter and all of that in the historical texts I keep online and at the internet archive…

So yeah. That is really why I keep all of this written down, at the end of the day. Not for the subscribe button (okay a little for the subscribe button) but because someday I will be gone and hopefully some 19 year old with a kiddy pool and a coconut bra is still voting their friends out of an apartment every 15 minutes and calling it survivor and has no idea it was ever mine. That is the dream. That is the immortality. That is enough for me.
