There is No Military Option in Iran

During a late-night phone call in January 2026 President Trump reportedly told Minnesota Governor Tim Walz what he also told White House advisers:

Myopic obsession with regime change in Tehran from Trump and his Zionist inner circle make this remark particularly alarming. DC’s insatiable appetite for employing US Military (USM) might to shape global affairs is nothing new but the stakes are higher this time. What makes war against Iran so dangerous?

Trump’s militant braggadocio relies on a decrepit USM that is more brand than bang. Largely because of Congressional neglect, grift at the highest levels of the Military-Industrial-Complex (MIC), and corrosive leadership from political generals (both retired and active duty), America’s once world-class defense establishment is a marketing commercial not a reality.

There are deep-rooted, structural problems that have crippled the USM:

  • First, America’s domestic manufacturing capacity is anemic

  • Second, social engineering has wrecked military cohesion, discipline and leadership

  • Third, a broken procurement system means defense spending does not equal defense capability

Congress, the White House, and perhaps the Pentagon still do not fully grasp this reality. Like so many policymakers with a cocktail level of familiarity with military matters, President Trump assumes a +$1T defense budget automatically translates into combat power. Unfortunately, when it comes to return-on-investment DOD is closer to ENRON than Apple.
