Happy New Year! A bowl of New Year’s tteokguk for all of you!

Dear friends,

As we begin a new year, I want to share something personal with you.

My husband, David, who worked quietly behind the scenes on my website for the past 18 years, passed away recently. He was my cameraman, my editing partner, and my greatest supporter, and everything we built here was something we did together.

I want you to know that I am still here, and I will continue to be part of this community in the same way I always have by sharing, encouraging, and connecting through Korean food.

New videos may take a little longer for now as I make new arrangements, but our community is not going anywhere. I will return to making videos, step by step, when the time is right.

Thank you for your patience, your kindness, and for being here with me as I move forward.

For cold days like these, gomtang is a comforting soup the whole family can enjoy. Made by slowly simmering beef and radish, it’s nourishing, warming, and full of protein. You can find the full recipe and video on my website.

One of my longtime reader George cooked Korean food with his daughters during the holidays, a time when their family comes together despite living far apart, making some Korean side dishes and sharing comforting Kimchi Sundubu-jjigae! The spicy broth is gently bubbling, with plenty of soft white tofu and a generous topping of chopped green onions.
This is the kind of dish I encourage you to make on a cold winter day, for warmth and comfort, both in body and in spirit.

Daniela said, “I’ve made this several times and it’s always a hit. I’m serving this for Christmas this year for the vegetarians coming but everyone will eat it!”

I’m a home chef and dislike baking because I never want to measure anything. Well, randomly bought some yeast and remembered this recipe. I made it today. OMG! I still don’t know if I was dreaming while eating it because it was just that good. I’ll have to get a third slice to confirm I am awake and did the baking. I will make this for the rest of my life and share it with my adult daughter and insist she make it.

Check out my fluffy white bread recipe here!

Thank you for reading and for being part of this community. I’ll be here, and I look forward to cooking and sharing with you, one step at a time.
