Enjoying my homemade carrot cake muffins with a warm cup of tea and the sun on my back is such a happy and peaceful time for me. After filming my videos I always get to eat my own delicious food!
The teacup and teapot you see here were my late mother’s. She kept and used them with such care over many years. When I use these things she cherished, I get a strong sense of part of her being here with me.
These carrot cake muffins are delicious, wholesome, and filled with sweet memories! I used to bake carrot cake for my family years ago, and this simple muffin version brings back those happy moments. Enjoy them with coffee, tea, or milk for a cozy breakfast! The recipe is here.
I’m excited to invite you to a special event next week on November 5 at 8pm EST! It’s the live premiere of my feature-length movie Real Korean Cooking Stories on YouTube. I’ll be in the live chat during the movie as it plays to talk, answer questions, and just hang out.
I filmed this movie during my 2015 trip to Korea and then edited it into one film. It tells the stories of me and my friends and family, and it’s my way to connect directly with all of you around the world, all through the lens of food and cooking.
I can’t wait to share this time with you! See you there!
A special yukgaejang video just for my newsletter subscribers!
As winter approaches, I thought a hot, spicy, and nourishing bowl of yukgaejang would be perfect. Ironically, I also recommended yukgaejang in last year’s November newsletter! : ) This time, though, I’ve edited a video short that’s easy to follow, so you can make it at home with confidence.
For the full length video and the complete recipe, check out my yukgaejang recipe on my website!

Here’s _mikoo’s gorgeous Korean food spread, made at home for her Taiwanese relatives, with bossam, japchae, and so many other delicious dishes. What makes me happiest is that she says she was inspired by me to create all of this. And the cute cameo of the baby just melts my heart!
You always brighten my day and give me so much to smile and think about! Here are a few of your messages I’ve picked to share with you this month!
Do you remember? At the beginning of my vegetable pancake video, I said, “To celebrate this springtime, I wanna flip my pancake!” So I had a good laugh after reading fruppypie’s comment on YouTube:
I’ve been wanting to make this for the longest time and today I finally did. Celebrating autumn with something crunchy and delicious! Tysm!
We have plenty of reasons to celebrate in our everyday life. Especially when it comes to making delicious food! Go ahead and flip! : )
Jan1cem asked me how she could make her pancake crunchy. I think many of you might have the same question, so I’d like to share my answer here:
Add more oil around the edge of the skillet, and then using a spatula, lift the edges of the pancake and tilt and shake the skillet so that the oil evenly coats the bottom. Cook over high or medium high heat until both sides turn crunchy.
This is a story sent by Anci, who is fighting cancer. I was so happy to hear that she was able to enjoy my shrimp porridge even when she had no appetite at all. Eating something is so important in battling cancer, and she made a great choice with this simple-to-make porridge. I hope that these homemade meals help her recover quickly. Never give up, Anci!
I wanted to thank you for your rice porridge recipe!!! I just had a long fight with cancer that left me tired and with no energy. No wish to eat or cook but just by coincidence I saw this shrimp rice porridge and decided to make it. Ohhhhhh wauhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! NOT ONLY SIMPLE TO MAKE, BUT DELICIOUS! And sooooo comforting, so homey! This was a game changer for me, lifted my spirits, my desire to eat and cook again.
I want to share Keuxily’s comment that truly made my day. Even though I’ve never met her, she’s using my recipes to cook delicious meals for her whole family. Go Keuxily, you’re amazing!
I am Korean American and live with my elderly parents and do most of the cooking for them. … My mom has dementia and it’s been so difficult for me to witness her aging. The food is one thing that brings us together. You have taught me a lot already. Thank you and I hope you get to read this to feel my gratitude!
I hope you enjoyed reading my letter and see you next month on December 1st! Keep being happy with your delicious Korean cooking!
