Ok Portugal………. we need to have a talk about Sangria………. I’m not sure that is such a great idea………. But I decided to spend the rest of my life in denial when it comes to Sangria…….. Early birds get the funniest meetings……… Big discussion this morning. We urgently need to find a new position for the upstage dimmer city. We gathered the whole team, discussed our options, made a decision, and now we…

Hejsan hejsan! Busy days inside the arena! And good thing we are inside. It’s still raining………. The LED strips in the spheres were finalized and tested today. Now we just need to lift them up, put them in an angle, and get all the pieces to work together and actually look like three big spheres- piece of cake……….. Remember this guy? Joeri Swagemaker is in da house! Besides being one of the best…

Hejsan Hejsan music lovers! Here is today’s update from the dream factory! The scenograpic spheres are being built today. They are quite modest pieces……. We got three in total, the smallest being 60 meters long, and the largest 120 meters long. They will be loaded with moving lights and strobes before they are ready to go into their final positions. Hejsan Hejsan! It’s official! March 2018 was the second rainiest month in Lisbon since they started to keep records of the weather down here. Internet says that it rains 15 days in April. That means we are only 5 days away from our quota! I trust in internet…………….. A ham, salami, cheese and bread together with a cow and parts of the contest team. A perfectly normal day at the office. The cow has…

Hejsan Hejsan and welcome to the birthday celebration day of Hans Cromheecke! Hans is our technical manager for video. A happy Belgium boy we got to know back in 2009 when we did Eurovision in Moscow. I figured that if I ever need a really good technical manager for video, Hans will be my first choice, since he managed to ride out the Moscow show, which was, to put it mildly, a bit over the top…

Hejsan Hejsan dear friends! Yes, we are still here, and it’s still raining! Sunny side up please! Today we are taking a trip out on the country side, 20km outside of Lisbon, for a site visit at EPC , our staging company for the show! Is it a banana? No, it’s a swan! No, it’s an airplane! Sorry…….. all wrong! Meet Mr. Rib! We got 28 of these beasts as a middle ground of our stage. The longest ones…

Hejsan hoppsan lovely people! Here is today’s report from the dream factory. It’s still raining by the way………… not good for outdoor Segway rides…………… Powershop started to pull their cables today. They come into the venue from a door on level 3, then up this 12 meter tall scaff tower, to the top of the venue structure on Stage Right and Stage Left where we have our main dimmer areas. Not sure why…

Hejsan hejsan music lovers! Or as they say in Portugal: Sua jaqueta cheira a bacalhau, vai para casa e se lava! Before we get started I realized that I forgot to mention one of the best resources for all things Eurovision: www.eurovision.tv ! While my little blog covers all the technical antics backstage, eurovision.tv covers pretty much everything else including artists, running orders, song…

Hejsan Hejsan and welcome back to our world! For all you new readers, here is how it works: We are doing daily updates of the production, but the updates have a 24 hour delay, since that is the only way we can admin this. So, if my calendar is correct, today it is April 05, which means that we will cover April 04 today. Clear? Here we go! Altice Arena, our home for the next couple of weeks, has a…

Hejsan Hejsan! If you’re just tuning in be sure to read my Welcome Back intro to get you up-to-date. Got it? Good. Let’s start with a trip down memory lane, and cover some bits and pieces of the past 9 months! But let me first send a BIG THANK YOU for the warm welcome I got in this country! They even put my name on their chairs. It’s really too kind of them! My first trip here was already in July.…
