Hi, I'm Lynn. This blog is about the moments leading up to—and coming after—my big move to the Netherlands. With this, my life is changing in nearly every wa...
Around 3 am the other night, I heard a bang. I hear a very similar noise some nights, but this time it was much louder and I could actually see what was causing it. I looked out my apartment window to the sight of a car repeatedly ramming into the jewelery shop across the street and men yelling. They left the car and got away on a moped. I woke Andrei, and the police arrived just as I was calling…
Today, I actually woke up pretty early. And just in time, as we heard a loud roar outside. We looked out as two fighter jets sped by. I immediately recognized the surprisingly loud F-35s, which must have been going close to the speed of sound. I think this is the first time I've seen fighter jets in flight. I wonder if this was planned, or maybe a couple of pilots just wanted to give central…
Our reserved time in Copenhagen was over and it was time to leave. We had decided to take trains to get to our final destination of Apeldoorn, Netherlands, with the whole journey expected to take 16 hours. We wanted to get some final things from the convenience store (Netto) before we left. All I really wanted was a bag of my beloved wasabi covered nuts. On the way back, we heard a bit of noise…
Well, we made this flight. From the time we pulled in to Saint Louis' airport, I was somewhat sick with the feeling that I was about to leave everything behind. The feeling faded once we got moving, helped along the way by some interesting incidents. Of course, you have the typical TSA agents who hate the world and everyone in it. There's not much to write about there, but the strangest thing in…
Our flight was to leave at 7:25. Maybe because the morning was so peaceful, we completely lost track of time. Reality was setting in as we hurriedly packed our bags and left at 2:45. But it wasn't enough. At least now we are not as stressed about the upcoming flight in a day or so...even though we can't really afford it. Either way, the extra days allotted by this mistake gives us time to do a…
Assuming all goes well, this is the last day living in America for me. And of course, I got sick again. Right before the flight... We are flying to Denmark, where we'll get married. Then, take a train to The Netherlands, where we plan to live and work. Getting settled is going to be so difficult, but it's nice that we know a couple of people in the country already. The worst part will be leaving…
A few days ago, we went to Target (still in the states) and, as we were leaving, Silent Hill f caught my eye. I feel guilty but I can't wait to play it. I fixed my tapes, and I got a little gameboy-esque handheld called a PocketStation for the PS1. It's really cute. These distractions are becoming important, because the closer I get to the flight, the more worried I am. We leave tomorrow.
Today, Pepsi had to go to the vet to get his nails clipped, because his mom and dad are too soft-hearted to do it. A few days ago we tried clipping them, but before anything even happened he knew what was happening and squeaked. We knew then that we couldn't do it ourselves. He was scared on the way there, but he did great! It only took a minute, and the vet had bunnies of her own, which eased my…
