For the last couple of years, I’ve been working on an investigative article about an organization called Leverage Research. (If you’ve never heard of Leverage Research, wait for my article and then you’ll know more!) The project is nearing completion, and many people in my Bay Area communities are very curious about it.

I was hoping the article would be done and published by now, but it’s still being fact-checked. (Fact-checking can take a while.) Regardless, I will be speaking about my work on the article at a couple upcoming events in Berkeley. Both of these events are convened by the rationality community, also known as rationalists. (As I’ve previously noted, I don’t exactly consider myself a rationalist, but I have so many friends in that community that maybe it’s silly that I don’t.)

This coming weekend, June 5th-7th, I’ll be at LessOnline, which describes itself as “A Festival of Writers Who Are Wrong on the Internet.” This tagline is an inside joke. It’s referring to this legendary comic:

Duty Calls
The classic webcomic XKCD published this legendary installment in 2008.

Next weekend, June 12th-14th, I’ll be at Manifest, which is affiliated with LessOnline but is somewhat nerdier: “A festival for predictions, and markets thereof.” In other words, Manifest focuses on prediction markets (but there is a lot of other stuff at Manifest too).

If you’ll be at these events, please say hi! My talks were literally just scheduled, so I don’t have my talk slots yet. I’ll update this post when I know more.

Update 1: My LessOnline session is 10am Saturday.

Update 2: My Manifest session is 10am the following Saturday. :)

Thanks for reading Solar Light! This post is public so feel free to share it.
