The Great Astro-Inquisition: The Dastardly Planets Behind that Steven Forrest Fire.

I am finding it increasingly difficult to watch people (famous and everyday) move through reality holding on to beliefs like a fundamentalist bible thumper attached to the literal word of God.

Case in point: The recent Steven Forrest debacle, in which this esteemed elder astrologer was flame broiled by an Inquisition mob for using the N-word in a podcast about the shadow of racism. Who knows now how that actually went down, the podcast was taken off line.

But the belief structures on both sides of the debate were clearly on display. And clearly never inspected by parties on both sides.

Side One: Neo colonial micro aggressions and systemic racism mean that Forrest’s errant use of the N-word makes him a racist and that punishment must be meted and that no amount of apology will ever suffice. He was quickly uninvited, aka cancelled, from participating in UAC this September where he was scheduled to teach/speak. This side was spear-headed by astrologer Chris Brennan. It was also comprised largely of Gen Z, millennials and a smattering of younger Gen X astrologers. And yes, a lot of black astrologers jumped into the conflagration.

Side Two: Consisting mostly of the old guard, the legacy astrology community (boomers and Gen X) this side held a firm belief that Forrest meant no harm, that he blundered into the politically correct cancel culture and that his N-word moment was contextual to the “shadow of racism” content being discussed on a podcast with his black business partner, for gosh sakes, who was fine with it all. To sum up this side, the belief would be something like: “Everyone makes mistakes, get over it already.” Intention matters more than words that feel ouchy to sensitive others. Surprisingly, some black astrologers defended Forrest and joined this side.

This meme was trending. I am not taking sides here, just sharing the flavour of what went down.

Even as someone loaded for battle with an Aries Sun, Moon and Mercury, I somehow stayed out of the commentary fray which was mostly conducted on the dinosaur platform Facebook.

I watched virtue signalling and rolled my eyes. I watched pompous moral preaching and slugged back a martini. I watched feeble attempts to defend Steven Forrest buried under an avalanche of anger (I did downward dog).

I lobbed out my all-purpose Rumi line (Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there") and was met by crickets. Or attempts to suggest I might be racist by using a dead Persian poet as a shield for facing the hard truth of racism. Yeah. So I shut up.

Here is where I landed. This is what really matters to me.

How is it that astrologers — who get paid to tell people how to observe the sky patterns in order to avoid being “grabbed” by those patterns — fell deeply and unconsciously into those very patterns.

And they fell head first, without on iota of introspection and a seemingly complete unwillingness to observe the sky, smack their foreheads in a “doh” moment and admit just how grabbed they had become.

When debacle happened, old man Saturn fallen in the sign of youth (Aries) sat conjunct asteroid Salacia — code for scandal.

Old man Saturn is old man Steven Forrest. The sign of youth is the young astrologers leading the mob. Saturn retrograde sits with Neptune, also retrograde.

Neptune is the fog of the story, a the podcast removed so that now we only have early eye-witness accounts and then second hand stories of what may have been said. Like the whisper game, where the words spoken into one ear, to the next, become a corrupt file, last weeks hot mess was no different.

Jupiter in Leo has the capital T Truth in his roaring lion’s mouth, backed up by a total solar eclipse on August 12th. Trauma dude Pluto retrograde is hanging in Aquarius, and humming the brooding tune from the shark attack film Jaws. (I believe Chris Brennan is an Aquarius rising).

At this point, if cooler heads ever do prevail, we might look back at this scandal as a time where astrologers fell prey to, not the shadow of hidden racism, but to the looming darkness of duality that is ever-present in this matrix world. The very same sky that brings us daunting military wars, duped astrologers into an intercene and largely intergenerational war among colleagues.
