I just got back from a road trip with my family from New Orleans, where I learned so much about Voodoo and the layered, painful history of slavery that shaped that city’s spirit. I came home, sat straight down at my desk, and started writing for you. But it hasn’t only been astrology, I’ve also been deep in my movie script, since this trip doubled as a kind of family reckoning too, conversations I didn’t expect, things I saw and understood differently than I ever had before. Wayne Dyer used to say don’t die with your song still inside you, and I believe that with my whole chest, so here I am, back at my desk, ready to walk you through what the sky is asking of us this week.
My loves, have you ever said something you thought was harmless and watched the whole room go quiet, as you had just stepped on a landmine buried under someone else’s childhood. That is the flavor of these two days. What we have is subtler and, I think, more revealing, four separate conversations happening at once between what we say, what we want, what we believe, and what we are finally brave enough to do.
August 9–10, Mercury square Chiron in Leo and Taurus
Mercury in Leo wants the clever sentence, the dramatic entrance, the story everybody remembers tomorrow morning. Leo is visibility, pride, performance, the courage to say look at me. Chiron in Taurus could not care less about applause, it is the older, quieter wound around worth, security, and whether a person is allowed to simply be valuable without constantly earning it. When these two meet in a square, words can accidentally walk straight into an old bruise wearing high heels. Someone makes what they believe is a harmless joke at dinner and the table goes strangely silent, because it touched an insecurity nobody knew was sitting there.
We already watched a version of this play out in our own astrological community this month, when a well known elder in the field used a slur while telling an old story about mocking racism, on a podcast with a Black friend and colleague. The word itself detonated the room, but the more telling part, astrologically speaking, was everything that came after. There was an apology, then a request not to be called what the word made him look like, then a doubling down that many in the community experienced as more painful than the original moment, and then the loss of his standing at a major conference. That is Mercury square Chiron in a single arc, the clever persona colliding with a wound about reputation and worth far older and far bigger than one person’s discomfort, and then the test of whether pride can bend enough to actually repair it.
For some this can unfold as a public moment, a journalist, a commentator, a podcast host saying something meant to be provocative and discovering the audience hears something else entirely. On the world stage, it can look like a leader reaching for identity language in the middle of a dispute that was really about resources, money, or borders, turning policy into personality, turning disagreement into a loyalty test. It is worth noticing, for those of you who track natal charts, how many of the loudest voices currently shaping global politics carry heavy Leo weight of their own. Trump has Leo rising and Mars in Leo. Netanyahu carries Mars in Leo as well. Vance is a Leo sun with a Leo ascendant. Obama, for contrast, is a Leo sun too, though his has tended to read as warmth and story rather than combat. When the sky itself lights up Leo and squares it against an old wound around worth and security, it can pull hardest on the people whose own charts are already built from that fire, for better or for worse, depending on how each of them has learned to carry it. The more interesting story is rarely the provocation itself, it is what happens after. Does pride refuse to bend, or does someone find the humility to say I was wrong? History tends to forgive faster when someone simply owns the moment instead of producing a seventeen-slide defense of why everyone else misunderstood them.
Closer to home, it can unfold as the sentence you have rehearsed in your head for six months finally coming out sideways. I need more attention becomes you never care about me. I felt rejected becomes you are selfish. Underneath the accusation usually sits that same Taurus wound, the fear of not being valuable enough, not secure enough, not worth staying for. Half of human conflict, my darling, is somebody asking for love while dressed as a lawyer presenting evidence. If you are a parent, watch your children through this same lens, the dramatic or suddenly competitive child may not be demanding attention, they may simply be checking whether anyone notices them at all.
August 9–10, Venus quincunx Pluto
Venus governs attraction, pleasure, money, self-worth, beauty, and relationships. Pluto governs obsession, control, secrecy, and the uncomfortable question of who actually holds the power. A quincunx asks for an adjustment nobody quite knows how to make, and this combination can make desire feel strangely disproportionate to its object. Somebody becomes fascinated with a person they barely know, checking the phone, analyzing punctuation, treating the difference between goodnight and goodnight with a heart emoji like a matter for investigation.
It can unfold financially too, the handbag, the car, the vacation that suddenly becomes an investment in emotional wellness. Pluto always asks what sits underneath the spending: is this pleasure, or is it status, validation, revenge, or control wearing a price tag? On the collective level, this energy tends to shine a light on wealth, ownership, and the private agreements sitting underneath public glamour, the kind of story that surfaces when a celebrity marriage, a state fund, or a corporate merger reveals a far more complicated power arrangement than the red carpet ever suggested. The accounting department is never as clean as the photograph.
In relationships already established, hidden power dynamics can become harder to look away from. One person controls the money, another controls the affection, someone uses silence as punishment, someone says, “Do whatever you want,” while meaning the opposite precisely. Venus wants harmony, but Pluto wants truth, and if a partnership has stayed peaceful only because one person keeps swallowing their needs, these two days can make that arrangement feel unbearable. That discomfort is not the enemy; it may be the invitation.
August 9–10, Venus opposition Neptune
Now Venus walks directly into Neptune’s fog machine. Together these two can create poetry, music, extraordinary compassion, and the kind of romance that convinces someone the universe personally arranged the restaurant reservation. They can also make a person see exactly what they desperately want to see, and nothing more.
It can unfold as falling in love with potential instead of the person standing in front of you. He is complicated, she is healing, they are afraid of intimacy, they are going through something, and meanwhile six months have passed, and they still have not texted back before Wednesday. Neptune can turn a red flag into a watercolor painting if you let it. The honest question is simple: are you loving the person, or the beautifully edited documentary you made about who they might someday become? Old lovers may become romanticized too; one song and every argument disappears. Memory under Neptune is a talented film editor; it removes the boring fights and keeps only the sunset.
Financially, glamour deserves a little more skepticism than usual right now. A purchase, an investment pitch, a fundraising appeal, a beautifully marketed opportunity may not be quite what it appears. Before handing over money because something feels magical, read the terms and make sure exclusive opportunity does not simply mean somebody built a lovely website yesterday. On the other hand, some of you will experience this transit far more gently, as compassion toward someone you once judged harshly, or the sudden understanding that another person’s behavior grew from a pain you never saw. Forgiveness and access are two different things, you can release the resentment without handing anyone another key to the house.
August 9–10, Mars trine North Node
Mars brings action and physical drive, the North Node points toward unfamiliar territory and where the collective is heading next. A trine builds momentum without much friction, so this can unfold as finally doing the thing you have only discussed. Sending the application, making the call, leaving the stagnant situation, speaking publicly. There comes a moment when research quietly becomes avoidance wearing reading glasses.
Collectively, it can look like organizing that gathers speed quickly, a campaign or a public movement finding traction because its timing happens to land when the collective is already primed to listen. Professionally, it can unfold as an opening arriving before your confidence has fully caught up, being asked to lead, present, or step into territory you have never navigated. The North Node rarely feels like an old comfortable sweater, it usually feels like standing backstage thinking whose idea was this, and then Mars simply walks out anyway.
Not every uncomfortable step forward under this transit needs to feel like conquering an enemy, the shadow side of Mars trine North Node is recklessness mistaken for courage. The lighter expression is simply movement chosen on purpose.
Mercury exposes the wound, Chiron asks whether it can become wisdom. Venus reveals what is truly valued, Pluto asks where the power hides. Neptune asks whether the dream is beautiful or merely blurry, and Mars refuses to sit around philosophizing forever while the North Node quietly points toward the next road.
Not everything that hurts is a disaster. Not everything beautiful is true. Not everything intense is love. And not every frightening next step is the wrong direction. Sometimes truth bruises the ego before it frees the person.
So watch the words people choose. Watch what suddenly becomes irresistible. Watch what looks almost too beautiful. And watch, most importantly, what you finally become brave enough to do.
Tell me in the comments which of these four is speaking loudest to you this week: the wound, the desire, the fog, or the courage. I read every single one.
A small note before I go. Everything above is astrology, offered as a mirror and a lens, not as fact, prediction, or judgment of anyone's character, including the public figures mentioned. Astrology can illuminate patterns; it cannot diagnose, verify, or determine what is true about a person or an event. Please treat it as reflection and possibility, not certainty, and always use your own discernment alongside it.
