Hello Good Sentient Non-LLM Physically-Bounded Entities!
I know, I know - I said I’d just share stories here. Fictions. Fictions and art.
Well, I lied. I’m human, so I promise you it was no mere hallucination, no, this was a lie. But, perhaps it was not entirely a lie, for you see, this ttrpg rulebook is full of stories, vignettes, illustrations, and the building blocks of yet more stories and fictions you can create yourself. After all, isn’t that a lot of what roleplaying games are about? Games of “let’s find out”? Yes, yes, that is what it is about. Not those things other people suggest, my precious, no.
Ok, stop, before I hunch over into a full fowl-golem, let’s get the 172-page (or so) PDF of this rulebook into your hands—should you be so inclined. Here it is:
The Vastlands Guidebook - right here on my site
Also The Vastlands Guidebook - on DTRPG, where you can PWYW for it.
Yes, the same Vastlands Guidebook - on Itch.io, with more PWYW options.
{did I mention it’s free?}
The VLG has all* the rules you need to create a character at the end of time and wander into the Ultraviolet Grasslands, or spend your time decaying into a husk of debauchery in Our Golden Age. Including, but not limited to:
character generation
character corruption
character resurrection
equipment modification
cat worship
character character
error
error
please, we were promised heaven, but this feels like
please ignore the cries of the subhumans
all is well here at the end of time
we also include
exotic armors
oldtech weapons
strange powers
and more amusements to distract you from the looming terror of the Void and the velvet glove of the Lords’ Own Jubilee*.
{yes, I definitely mentioned it’s free, and fully illustrated}
Enter a cosmos so old and so decayed that to even attempt a history is to be a quixotic fool or a quantum supercomputing Mind named Thucky with a planetoid for a brain.
Throw aside your worries, sip the local soma, and go have an adventure to feed your archaic brainmatter while the world wheels on.
Please do not try to disturb the Lords. They are busy. They will be back soon.
{though, if you like it, I’ll be happy of any cash you can offer, after all digital ink ain’t free}
This whole massive over-illustrated book is the writing and art and layout of one human - me. But I couldn’t have done it without the support and encouragement and help of dozens, hundreds of people. From family to friends, playtesters to heroes of the stratometaship, folks who bought my books and folks who sent nice words on the intersphere and everyone who’s played one of my games or enjoyed some of my works. It’s a ragged way of saying this book is the product of a human village. Largely digital, yes, but still a village.
So, in that spirit, I hope you will enjoy this piece of folk art stolen from the depths of the far ends of time and space and hauled here for your gaming fun.
Thank you, everyone!
