The Fourth Satanic Abortion Clinic

In 2023, we at The Satanic Temple opened our first telehealth abortion clinic, which we named, ‘The Sam Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic,” in reference to the Supreme Court Justice who penned the majority opinion for the overturning of Roe v Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The resultant outraged Fox News headline stated, “Satanic Temple’s disgusting ‘Sam Alito’ abortion facility isn’t a legitimate ‘exercise of religion’” while correctly anticipating “Satanic Temple will likely seek ‘religious’ exemptions so it can dispense abortifacients through the mail.” The New York Times noted that our arguments for religious protection of our bodily autonomy mirrored arguments that have proven successful for Christian groups in the past. HBO’s John Oliver referred to it as “the single best ‘your mom’ joke of all time.” Since then, we have opened 2 more clinics and have provided free reproductive health care to hundreds.
