the hard work of staying stuck

Here on this little island, a German boat captain said,

“Every day the mountain looks different.”

We looked across the red tile roofs, swimming towards the shore to see wrinkled hands reaching through windows, propping open shutters.

The clock tower rings another hour, but it’s two minutes late.

It’s a lot of work to stay stuck when even the mountain changes.

It’s a lot of work to live in “or else” or “what if” when even time is running late.

One fisherman is weaving a net, the next untangling a fish from its fibers.

Gently rocking. Creaking.

Stuckness is an act.

We move regardless.

Warmly,

Lucas
