Last night, as the ballots closed in the 2025 New York City Mayoral election and votes were being counted, an early, unquestionable victory was taking shape: Zohran Mamdani was to be the mayor-elect from a turnout of over 2 million New Yorkers. This was the highest voter turnout since 1969!
A few hours later, in his victory speech, Mamdani looked directly at the camera, to President Donald Trump, and said four words:
TURN THE VOLUME UP
Right then, as that phrase resonated, I registered turnthevolumeup.org in the seconds that followed. I wasn’t sure of the details, but the first thought that came into my mind was: this is meaningful.
Why? Because I bring to the table more than a JD-level understanding of policy and systems. I think like an SRE (Site Reliability Engineer) & technologist, whether I am on or off the clock. That means:
Recognizing risk and exposure in digital infrastructure (yes, domains count).
Acting swiftly when the timing window is narrow, just like in an incident. In this case, under a minute from hearing the phrase to securing the domain and launching a placeholder.
Framing strategy not just for “now”, but for future protection against bad actors, safeguarding a potential rallying point, enabling fundraising or call-to-action if/when appropriate.
Seeing connections across layers: hardware/infrastructure → narrative → trust → long-term viability. A website is never just a website, its your brand, identity, and communication lifeline.
In under an hour I had:
Secured the domain to prevent misuse or impersonation.
Deployed a simple placeholder landing page with a donate button tied to Mamdani’s campaign infrastructure.
Reinforced digital stewardship of a phrase that had cultural momentum.
I solve for far more than uptime, incident response, or pipelines. I architect for anticipation, resilience, and ecosystem thinking in a holistic manner.
