I promise I won’t do this all year, but it’s FOUR FOR FOUR. Told you I’d keep my promise. Right, this week I have two important gifts for you.

This gift starts with a simple question; have you ever dreamt about being on the radio? Yes? Read on (or share this with someone who you think would love it).
On May 29th we kick off another LWSTD-FM’s Open Air takeover, filling our weekend radio schedule with all new voices! AND YOU COULD BE ONE OF THEM!
One of our core goals for LWSTD-FM is to make our schedule as diverse and inclusive as possible, ensuring we reflect and support music from the margins.
One way we’re trying to achieve that is through Open Air.
Every few months we clear the schedule for the weekend and welcome in a whole crew of new residents who bring a diverse blend of styles, formats and genres. So if you’ve ever dreamed about being on the radio and have an idea for a show then Open Air is for you. Beginners and the radio curious are very welcome.
Fill in the form here (or share it with someone who might be keen!), and apply by midnight on the 29th April. Importantly: global majority and historically marginalised voices WILL be prioritised.

❤️ My second gift to you
For those of you that might not have the foggiest idea what lovewillsavetheday.fm is - and there is a chance you’ve missed it - it’s the community-owned, co-operative run radio station and community that came from this very newsletter. (For long time readers, yes that sentence still seems wild to me.)
It was set up by a crew that joined the original LWSTD WhatsApp group years ago, and the station has subsequently flourished into a much bigger deal. We set it up with the same principle the newsletter started with back in 2017 - to amplify art, culture, and music from the margins.
As the wonderful Becca OGT once said, we were a community looking for a radio station (rather than the too-oft vice versa), and so the community always comes first. We are firm believers that if you’re here, you belong.
It’s why Open Air is such an important part of our community, and for my second gift to you today, I wanted to share some of my favourite Open Air shows - mostly from people who’d never been on radio before, and most who’ve ended up as full time LWSTD-FM residents (and much more!).
So, please, witness the fitness. Here are some of my favourite picks from past Open Air weekends.
Possibly my favourite show ever on the station. An utterly sublime way to spend two hours.
One of my long time favourite writers on culture and music, and impeccable selector too!
Possible the most tripped out, delightful, weird, wonderful folk not folk show we’ve ever had on the station. A MUST listen.
Northern Nights with Maz
Max is one of those people that I knew was a LWSTD-FM lifer the second that I heard her Open Air debut. She’s now a part of the team that runs the station and community, and (in my mind), basically my little sister. Legend (but don’t tell her I said that).
Gloria is an absolute ray of sunshine of a human, and her music taste amplifies that soaring brightness. Expect house, soul, disco, and a huge injection of fun. If Maz is my little sister, Gloria is my big sister.
One of my favourite Open Air debuts ever. Jaz Steele charting the story of Scouse house through a series of inter-generational stories. Proper. And Jaz is back soon!
Leftfield dance music of the very best kind. Always weird, always wonky, always great.
The films buff’s film buff. The voice of an angel, and incredible musical taste. The perfect sound to a Saturday morning. Tarek’s story of how he found LWSTD-FM is also a wild one… But I’ll let him tell his story!
One of our youngest ever Open Air residents - and a lesson in true folky, indie, balearic wonder.
Utterly impeccable house music of all varieties, Vivien Solak was an immediate hit with the LWSTD-FM crew, and just goes from strength to strength!
Saving the best til last? Very possibly. Emilia G is next level. One of the best examples of someone who’s radio debut was on LWSTD-FM, and who’s gone on not only to become a much loved resident, but a rapidly rising star in the European scene and the promoter of the fantastic FLINTA night, Pherotone. A 10/10 no notes human.
