Dearest gentle reader ❀ yes, it’s me, and I know it’s been a while and honestly I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with me.
I haven’t written here in weeks
I haven’t written here in almost eight weeks, not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t need to. Or at least, that’s what I thought.
I used to come here when the noise in my head was too loud, when my emotions were urgent and pulsing like a warning light, when I was raw and messy and hurting and I didn’t know how to carry all of that inside my chest anymore. I wrote here because my words were the only thing that kept me standing. Writing was like my survival. Writing was my fire. It was the echo chamber for my mayhems.
But then something strange happened.
I became comfortable.
I know… that sounds almost ridiculous. After all, isn’t comfort supposed to be the reward we’ve all been quietly chasing? For me, it definitely was. I had always wanted it so badly, like someone who had never truly known softness before. I used to dream of days where my body could finally rest without my mind spinning into panic at odd hours, where life could feel gentle instead of constantly urgent and gnawing at me. And now, in a way I never fully expected, I have it.
You see, I quit my 9-to-5 job back in January. I left where I was staying, and I came back home to reset. Though after just a week or so of settling in, I started something new... which was nothing like the old corporate grind. And honestly, it has turned out to be very flexible, with a lovely pay and no soul-crushing commute to battle every morning. It’s the kind of job that finally lets you breathe, you know? The kind where the hours don’t own you, and you still have room left in your day for yourself.
Because of that, my life has gently settled into this soft, repeating loop. I sleep when I want, I work when the schedule calls (but never in that frantic, soul-draining way), I eat good food without rushing, I watch movies that make me laugh or feel warm inside, I play games until my eyes get tired, and then I sleep some more. There’s no heavy drama waiting around the corner. The thoughts in my head, which used to scream so loudly, have become surprisingly quiet now. They’re almost polite, drifting by without demanding attention. Like… i mean, I haven’t cried in a long time. I’m just… here. Physically present, breathing evenly, existing in this steady, uneventful space.
And yet, even though it feels better in so many ways, there’s this quiet part of me that finds it all strangely bland.
Yes, bland! Like a bowl of rice with no salt or seasoning.
I am grateful for the comfort… truly, deeply grateful because it’s something I prayed for during the harder seasons. But under this thick, warm blanket of ease, something inside me is starting to feel a little muffled. The version of me that used to write whenever I was sad, or bored, or overwhelmed, or bursting with any kind of feeling… that part has gone unexpectedly silent.
I used to believe that my writing only came from pain. That my strongest words were born in the fire, forged from tears and days when I felt like I was barely holding on. So when the pain quieted down and life stopped handing me sharp edges to cut myself on, I naturally assumed the words would dry up too. And for the past seven long weeks, they did.
But lately I’ve been wondering if that old belief was too narrow. Maybe my writing shouldn’t only be meant for survival mode... that it shouldn’t just be an emergency exit when my heart is on fire. Perhaps it can also exist in this quiet, comfortable seasons… as a way to honor the softer days instead of only documenting the storms.
Because, oh God! I miss writing. I miss the simple ritual of opening a blank page and letting my fingers move before my brain could even catch up. I miss shaping scattered thoughts into sentences that somehow feel like truth. I even miss the strange satisfaction of hitting publish, knowing that somewhere out there, someone might stumble across my words and feel a little less alone, even if they never leave a comment or send a message.
And speaking of silence… Substack, this space where I’ve poured pieces of my heart for quite some time now. Some of you have told me over the year that you love the way I write. Some of you said my words stayed with you more than I could ever imagine, that I’m talented, raw, and honest in a way that feels real. Yet here we are.. almost two months of nothing from me, and not a single person has reached out. No messages asking, “Hey, where have you been? We miss you.” No comments wondering why my posts stopped. Lol. Honestly, the silence stings more than I expected it to.
It makes me pause and question so many things. Was any of it ever truly about connection, or was I mostly screaming into the void and hoping for an echo in return? Am I writing for myself, or have I been quietly relying on that external validation to keep going? And if no one seems to notice when I disappear for weeks on end, does that mean my words weren’t carrying as much weight as I thought they were?
I sit with those doubts sometimes, and they feel surprisingly heavy for something so simple. In those moments, a small voice whispers that maybe I should just stop. That comfort is enough, and I don’t need to keep writing if the world doesn’t miss me when I step away.
But then another part of me… this quieter, yet stubborn and hopeful part, pushes back gently. What if i write anyway? What if i create not because the emotions are loud and demanding, but simply because i refuse to let the quiet seasons erase this part of who i am? What if comfort isn’t the end of my creativity, but an invitation to explore a different, softer kind of depth?
So today, I’m here anyway. I’m sitting down and coaxing the words out. I don’t know if these words will touch anyone reading them right now. I don’t know if you’ve ever found yourself in this exact in-between space, where life finally feels good and stable, yet your creative spark has grown strangely dim. Where you feel guilty for being comfortable, or where you wonder whether your art only mattered when you were suffering.
If any of that sounds familiar, then please know you’re not alone in it. I’m sitting right here with you, trying to figure it out too.
Anyways, until next time, whenever my words find their way here again.
Thanks for reading…
And… Bye❀
