There always seems to be a point each summer where I come up for air, look around my studio, and realize just how much has happened while my head was buried in a project… or projects rather.
This year has been... a lot. And we are just over halfway through.
Some of it has been exciting. Some of it has been exhausting. Some of it has quietly changed the direction I want my creative life to take.
If you’ve been following along, whether for a few weeks or for years, thank you for sticking around while I continue to evolve. It means more than you know.
One of my favorite projects this summer was designing and creating my Mor-inspired gown for the Dragons & Dreams Fantasy Soirée. Getting to attend the event dressed as one of my favorite ACOTAR characters reminded me why I fell in love with fantasy fashion in the first place. There’s something deeply satisfying about taking an idea that exists only in your imagination and bringing it to life stitch by stitch.
That creative spark isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
This September, I’ll be joining Whimsy Forge as one of the featured designers for Books, Gowns & Crowns in San Diego, where I’ll be creating an original siren-inspired couture look for the runway. I’m incredibly excited to document the process from sketchbook to final reveal, and I’ll be sharing plenty of behind-the-scenes peeks along the way.
This has been one of the biggest milestones I’ve been quietly working toward for years.
The first chapters of Sins of Underland are now releasing on Ream, complete with original character artwork and all of the worldbuilding I’ve been hiding in notebooks for far too long. Seeing readers finally meet Alicia, Malrick, Obryn, Kaelith, and Sinclaire has been surreal and my beta readers have been loving it! That alone is worth more than I describe!
And because apparently I don’t know how to stop creating...
I’ve also begun releasing a second novel set within the same universe.
Claimed in Blood is a darker, blood-soaked gothic why-choose romance that unfolds alongside the timeline of Sins of Underland. There are already little connections hidden between the two series for readers who enjoy hunting for Easter eggs.
Building a universe instead of a single story has been a dream of mine for a very long time, and I’m so excited to finally share it with all of you.
The podcast has continued to become one of my favorite creative spaces.
I’ve had the opportunity to interview incredible authors, voice actors, educators, and creators about dark romance, fantasy, kink, creativity, and everything in between. Every conversation reminds me how lucky I am to spend time with people who are just as passionate about storytelling as I am.

This month also marked the launch of my collaborations with All Sabers and Velvet Hammer.
Working with brands that genuinely fit the fantasy, bookish, and gothic aesthetic I’ve built over the years has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m looking forward to sharing even more projects like these in the future.
One of the moments that meant the most to me this summer was participating in the #HumanVoicesOnly movement.
As someone who wears a lot of creative hats, author, artist, costume designer, podcaster, narrator, and educator, I care deeply about celebrating the work that comes from real people with real stories to tell.
For the campaign, I shared a reading from Sins of Underland and joined countless other creators in shining a light on the value of human voices, human imagination, and the beautifully imperfect creative process.
That experience reinforced something I’ve been feeling for a while now.
People aren’t just looking for content.
They’re looking for connection.
They want to know the artist behind the illustration, the writer behind the chapter, the designer behind the gown, and the voice behind the microphone.
It’s one of the reasons I’m excited to share more of the messy middle going forward. The sketches before the finished illustration. The notebook pages before the novel. The fabric draped over a mannequin before it becomes a runway gown. The conversations that happen before a podcast episode ever goes live.
The finished piece will always matter.
But I think the journey of making it matters just as much.

One of the most exciting creative milestones this summer has been seeing my work expand into audio storytelling.
Earlier this year, the Gemini installment of the Zodiac Saga launched, featuring scripts I wrote for MagicWave. More recently, the Cancer series has begun its release, bringing a new collection of stories to listeners.
Watching these scripts come to life through incredibly talented voice actors has been such a rewarding experience. Audio storytelling asks you to write differently. Every pause, every breath, every line of dialogue has to carry emotion in a way that’s intimate and immersive, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with the process.
Even more meaningful has been the response from listeners. Reading the reviews and seeing how enthusiastically people have embraced these stories has reminded me why I love creating emotionally charged, character-driven experiences across different mediums.

It’s encouraged me to continue exploring audio fiction alongside my novels, and I have a feeling this is only the beginning of what that journey will lead to.

Over the last year, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the kind of creative career I want to build.
For years I’ve happily accepted custom gown commissions, and they’ve allowed me to create some truly incredible pieces for amazing clients. I’ll always be grateful for everyone who trusted me with their visions.
But I’ve realized some things:
I miss creating simply because inspiration strikes.
I miss illustrating.
I miss designing fantasy couture without a deadline attached.
I miss spending entire afternoons writing novels.
I miss experimenting.
I miss making art just because it refuses to leave my head.
So I’ve made the decision to close custom gown commissions for now. I have a couple left on my bench to finish up as of the time of posting this, but I’m no longer accepting new ones.
Instead, I want to focus on creating original wearable art that I can offer in my shop as one-of-a-kind pieces, collaborating with authors, illustrating my own worlds, writing more books, expanding the podcast, and giving myself room to create more of the spicer content that I love so much.
It’s time to feed the soul and make the space I need for my sanity and my health, and unfortunately, as much as I love creating commission gowns, I found I was spending over double the time I was budgeting for each one to make them perfect for clients, often at the expense of my own health. My biggest toxic trait is that I will always care more about my client’s happiness, to the point that I will put my own needs aside.
On the flip side, I created opportunities to work with individuals who want to learn to design and create their own couture pieces.
One of the biggest changes I’ve made this summer has been finding new ways to invite you into my creative process.
I’ve started hosting casual, unscheduled live sessions in my Discord, where you can simply hang out while I work. Some days I’ll be writing chapters of Sins of Underland or Claimed in Blood. Other days, I might be illustrating character art, designing podcast merch, building a fantasy gown, editing in Photoshop, or experimenting with new ideas in Canva or Procreate.
There isn’t always a strict agenda, and that’s exactly the point.
I wanted to create a space where creativity feels a little more like sitting together in a shared studio than watching a perfectly polished livestream. You’ll see the successes, the mistakes, the redesigns, the moments where something suddenly clicks, and occasionally the moments where I decide to scrap an idea entirely and start over.
Alongside that, I’ve also redesigned the membership tiers on ThatLitWitch.com.
One of the things people have asked me for over the years is more direct access while developing their own creative projects, whether that’s wearable art, fantasy fashion, storytelling, or simply learning the design process. The new tiers are designed to make that much easier, offering opportunities to work more closely with me as you bring your own ideas to life.
One of the greatest joys of creating has always been helping other artists discover what’s possible, and I’m excited to make that a bigger part of this next chapter.
