when in a new city

Whenever I travel somewhere, I plan a date when I have a free moment. Why? It’s fun to scope a new city with a someone cute that lives there and to make a connection (perhaps!). This has lead to me discovering so many places from a more local perspective, making many wonderful friends, applying to 90 Day Fiancé (a story for another time), having a long-distance crush or two, and learning a few things about how I date and just dating in general.

You could take this dating in a new city thing in a couple directions.

For the serious: You could ask the real questions much faster and have deeper discussions covering your dating lives, who you are and what you’re looking for, and just overall be more vulnerable with what you want a lot quicker.

For the not-so-serious: You can date for a fun night! I’ll leave you to define what “fun” means–but yes it could be anything from the the “casual fun” we’re all so accustomed to hearing to literally just playing tourist in the city you’re visiting . Hell, you could be a new person if you really want! Practice being the type of dater you want to be with new people.

*Note: Whichever route you take, be clear and say you’re visiting!

Overall, dating and traveling is a great time to be real with yourself. You’re on a quick timeline since you don’t actually live there. This brings a lot of things to the table that you wouldn’t necessarily do in your hometown because you’re going to disappear in a matter of days. There’s less pressure for you and your date and usually it results in a lot more open conversations and a fun time no matter how you look at it. You just might like the city and may even think about moving–so it’s good to get a taste of what dating feels like there!

And my most recent travels? I went to LA for a few weeks this summer and in that timespan, I went on a handful of dates because YOLO I am an extrovert. Nobody is more down to clown than someone that’s single, and that makes for a lovely time when you’re traveling solo to check out new neighborhoods and the type of daters that live there! I saw a lot of LA from neighborhood to neighborhood (I actually like to drive)! and I just got a great vibe of the city and what it’d be like living there. There’s something about that sunshine that makes everyone just happier and friendly. And despite what you may hear, dating in LA is great. There’s lots to do from eating at incredible restaurants to hiking* some of the most beautiful landscapes. And whatever they say about you needing to be a model? Nah, bro, you could be and dress however you want. Like most cities, there’s something for everyone and you should just (always) be yourself.

*If you decide to go on a hiking date, make sure you tell a friend and/or have find my friends on. There’s no getting lost in the woods here!

Song of the week (totally necessary on the PCH):
