Last month, we spent a few days on the Amalfi Coast for a wedding in Capri. This corner of Italy holds such a special place in our hearts… It’s where we spent our honeymoon a few years ago. Returning brought all those beautiful memories back, so I thought I’d put together a little travel guide to the coast: mine and Mackenzie’s favourite spots along the Riviera, where to stay, eat, and what to do.
There are certain places you dream about long before you ever visit, and for me, the Amalfi Coast was one of them. I used to have a photo of Positano pinned above my desk. When Mackenzie and I were choosing where to escape after our wedding, it felt like the obvious choice.
Getting There
Most journeys to this coastline begin in Naples, the nearest major airport and railway station. From there, the drive along the coast to Positano takes about an hour, and it’s one of the most dramatic and beautiful drives you’ll ever take. Terraced cliffs plunge into turquoise water, and every bend reveals another cinematic view. You could do this drive yourself - just keep in mind that most of the cars are stick shift, so make sure you know how to drive one! If you’re not feeling quite so adventurous but don’t want to miss the beautiful views, hire a private driver to pick you up; there are many great options on TripAdvisor if you read reviews and do some research. Hotels also often provide airport transfer to and from the Amalfi coast, so be sure to check this when you’re booking accommodations.
Perched high up the cliffside, Positano is every bit as breathtaking as the piccies you see online, with pastel houses stacked steeply over the sea, the scent of lemons in the air- just dreamy.
