Hi everyone and welcome to this weeks sneak peek book club video and art inspiration from the Pansy flower! How is your August going?
I’ve been painting a little in the studio, but its far too hot at the moment to do much at all. So I hope you are enjoying your August and finding a little time for creativity and being inspired! I’ve been painting these little seascape meditations in the morning which are sparking a new series! More to come soon. See below.

This flower is inside the fiveness section of my Drawing Botanical Blooms book and is one that I learnt to draw for this book! It is the first bilaterally symmetrical flower we cover in the book.
The pansy flower (Viola tricolor hortensis) belongs to the genus Viola and known for their wide range of colors, including shades of purple, blue, yellow, orange, red, pink, and even multi-colored varieties. But of course, the lines and blotches are also what makes this flower so unique and so much fun to DRAW and COLOR!
The pretty pansy has five overlapping petals and is also a bilaterally symmetrical flower.
Pansies are believed to have originated in Europe and love the cooler weather, so we see them mostly in the Spring and Autumn.

Pansies are often associated with affection and fond memories, symbolizing love, remembrance, and thoughtfulness, so you will likely see them often in bouquets too!
I used the beautiful Pansy on my hand-gilded letter P for my Botanical Lettering Project (I still have to finish the alphabet!). This is also a fave with my lovely Etsy Shop customers and can also be found at Galeria151art in Estepona, Spain.
From Motif to Mandala
As with all of my flower sketches and drawings, I love to take my flower drawings to then create Botanical Mandalas and other artworks. Below is a design I created using the Pansy as my inspiration and a version can be found in my coloring book here.
