LotFP Update!

The launch of Lost Carcosa (and The Ennui of the Deep-Delving Dungeoneer) went pretty well.

The slipcase sets sold out in 14 hours, which is awesome, and the individual books have been moving well. I had dreams that they’d all go quick, but, you know, reality.

All outstanding orders have now been shipped, except for two which we’re still waiting for payment on, and one that gave us a PO Box (which we can’t ship to) that we’ve sent them an email about.

Note: We have 25 copies left of Ennui, and just three copies of the hardcover freebie adventure that gets sent out automatically with all orders 36€ or more (CLAIMED) from the EU webstore. If you’re wanting either of these, I wouldn’t wait…

But of course there was calamity. Some of the Lost Carcosa copies sold at Ropecon and Gen Con have the finish starting to… I don’t even know what to call it. Blister? And not all at once either, my copy (yellow lotus) had the “cracks” in the finish grow by the day, this week. Six weeks after delivery? What the fuck? While it could be a cool effect if it was done on purpose… it wasn’t done on purpose. If your copy has been affected, email me (but wait until Monday if you can so I can have a weekend please?). If it is just the yellow ones (pleasepleasepleaseplease) this is going to be very annoying but manageable. If it’s all of them, that’s going to be… not good. Really not good.

The copies sold through the webstore do not have that same finish, but the marking/scuffing problem is more widespread than has been reported to me. I haven’t unboxed everything (I leave everything in their boxes, only opening a new box when a previous box is empty) but appreciable amounts of the green and blues (and those are in addition to the ones the printer already caught) have scuff marks on them. I’m looking at the copies before packing them so none should have gone out the door, but this does mean that when the “clean” copies run out, I’ll have to discount the rest and that’s going to depress the ceiling of this project’s potential profits and faaaacckkkk. (I am in communication with the printer about this, and if they ever tell me “we haven’t used this material before” again, then nope nope nope nope in the future. I’m tempted to say “We can just keep to what we know works, Disastrum/Nebulith/Staffortonshire as examples of to make books look fancy,” but I’ll always have a hair up my ass about “But what about… this?” as a way to make the perfect work of art.)

Anyway, I don’t know the ratio of good/marked copies so I can’t tell you how quick you need to be to get an unmarked copy (oh god every attempt to relax or try to write this weekend is going to be hijacked by my brain saying “UNBOX AND CHECK AND COUNT EVERYTHING,” isn’t it.)

Anyway, when the situation changes for any particular color, I will update here on the website (and on the webstore), but as of right now there are perfect copies of all three covers available.

So that’s the bad stuff.

I’m not going to bother looking at this next thing but looks like someone spent THREE HOURS bagging on Blood in the Chocolate? A Best Adventure gold ENNIE winner, by the way. I’m sure I’d be annoyed if I watched the video and paid attention to what they say about it, but I choose to step back and take it in the spirit of LET’S LOOK AT THIS BAD OLD HORROR MOVIE! videos on youtube, and the fact that I’ve bought more than one movie after seeing RLM roast it on Best of the Worst.

And there ain’t a damn thing wrong with Blood in the Chocolate, by the way, except for the fact that its author doesn’t want people to be able to get it.
