What if the universe isn’t calculating outcomes, but interfering its way into coherence? In quantum systems, every possible path a particle might take is explored in superposition—until some paths interfere destructively and cancel each other out, while others interfere constructively and reinforce.

Interference is a key aspect in quantum computing that leverages overlapping possibilities to strengthen or cancel each other out—like waves meeting on the surface of water. In quantum systems, it’s how some outcomes are amplified and others disappear, without ever being chosen directly.

In this way, the result isn’t chosen—it’s revealed. Now imagine that same logic playing out at the scale of spacetime itself. Not as a computation solving for answers, but as a field of possibility where coherence survives by constructive interference—and chaos cancels itself out. The universe doesn’t decide where it’s going. It converges where things hold.

This isn't metaphorical; it's structural. The laws of quantum mechanics already operate this way: evolution by probability amplitudes, path integrals, and constraints—until some interaction makes structure real.

In quantum algorithms, an oracle is a subroutine that identifies whether a given configuration satisfies a condition. It doesn’t know the answer—it just knows how to recognize one when it sees it.

In the universe, this role may be played by coherogenesis: the emergent tendency for systems under entropy to drift toward higher functional coherence.

Unlike in engineered systems, this oracle isn’t pre-programmed. Instead, it's an intrinsic feature of physical law: certain patterns naturally persist. Others fall apart.

  • Coherogenesis doesn’t “design” structure.

  • It selectively retains configurations that reduce tension, propagate themselves, or constrain entropy over time.

  • The oracle, then, is not a mind—it’s a tendency embedded in the field of relations.

Quantum interference is the heart of quantum computing. It’s how viable solution paths amplify, while others cancel out—without ever trying each path one by one.

This is not unlike what happens in nature.

Configurations that result in structural decay or chaotic dispersion are naturally pruned. Those that stabilize—like atoms, molecules, cells, or neural nets—are amplified simply by their persistence.

In this sense:

  • Entropy is the drift

  • Coherogenesis is the bias

  • Interference is the sculptor

The universe doesn’t need to “evaluate” each possibility—it interferes itself into coherence.

A fair challenge arises here:
Quantum computers can compute exponentially faster than traditional computers…so if this process is so powerful, why did life take billions of years to emerge?

The short answer: early coherence was fragile. The universe was not initially ready for recursive constraints. It took time for the substrate to become suitable for retention.

  • The early universe was hot, fast, and chaotic. No stability.

  • Only after cooling, element formation, planetary cycling, and molecular diversity did functional drift begin to create stable, recursive constraints.

  • Life isn’t inevitable—it’s a convergence point in the coherence funnel.

Coherogenesis is slow until it crosses a threshold—then it accelerates.

Once systems could model their own internal states—like with RNA, membranes, or cognition—coherence began reinforcing itself. Evolution exploded. Consciousness emerged.

The universe may not be solving for a single outcome, but it may behave like a quantum computation shaped by its own structural constraints.

  • It explores possibility through superposition.

  • It biases survival through embedded oracles of coherence.

  • It sculpts what persists through interference.

What survives isn’t the product of design—but of interference: the canceling of the incoherent and the self-amplification of what works.
