For those of you who might think my life as a writer is glamorous, let me assure you it is not. Those who know me in real life are already well aware what a mess my days can be at times and that I just laugh about it most days. I’m already giggling over today. You have to have a sense of humor.
Psalm 96:12 says: “Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Let the trees of the forest sing for joy.”
Psalm 98:4: “Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy!”
Ecclesiastes 3:4: “A time to cry and a time to laugh.”
Ecclesiastes 8:15: “So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.”
I have seen God’s sense of humor throughout my life, so who am I to not laugh at life’s little problems?
I have this sweet, precious little grandgirl with big blue eyes. She is a busy bee, but she’s also funny and wonderful. She followed me and my husband to the car and said she was going to come stay the night with Nana. I told her that I had work today with my local gig and that she had school tomorrow. Big tears filled her pretty blue eyes, and her little lip trembled, so being the Nana I am, I told her to get in the car. LOL
Well, Sunny being Sunny, she then proceeded to keep me up most of the night. And, not her fault, but she had an accident so had to have a bath and get her clothes changed and bedclothes changed. Finally, she apparently has figured out how my childproof doorknob covers work, because sometime during the night she trapped the cat in her room and he made a bit of a mess I had to clean up.
Needless to say, I couldn’t sit down and write this until my lunch break with my local gig. So, please forgive my tardiness today, but I also hope you get a chuckle out of picturing me running around cleaning up 15 messes before 6 a.m.
I’m finishing up formatting for my upcoming release Gunpowder and Promises for the Mail-Order Brides Undercover multiple author series. I’ve had so much fun fact-checking my research on this book. It is set in Wyoming Territory in the city of Cheyenne in 1878. It was a railroad town, which is what I needed for this story. I also needed a place with ongoing construction.
One of my favorite parts of writing a new story is digging into the details of a place. I’ve researched what woods they had that they’d likely have used in flooring, what foods were grown during that time period and in the month the story occurs, what the train depot was like, where people would have stayed and so on.
I hope all these small details bring the story to life for you and you feel as though you’ve stepped straight off that train with my heroine Evie and entered 1878. Journey with her to a thriving but still developing town on the western frontier. Meet Gideon, who is both her fiancé and a suspect. I hope you fall in love with them like I have.

What am I working on next? I have another multiple-author project book due in October. It’s very rough, so I’ll be adding to it, editing, changing things, running it past my betas and refining some more throughout the month of August. It is titled The Ranger’s Restoration, and I have to say that the story is one of my favorites so far. My hero has a unique name you probably don’t hear often - Lionel. It was inspired while listening to an old Lionel Richie song. The song ended, but the name Lionel kept repeating through my brain and I started to wonder what type of guy someone named Lionel who lived in South Africa (the group series setting) might be.
From that thought process, my hero was born. Isn’t the human brain amazing? God made us so intricate and gave us each a unique imagination and personality. He is such a good and artistic creator.
In between the writing and editing, I’m working on my daughter’s bridal shower that’s coming up in August. I’ll have a little project to unveil that I’ve loved working on, too. Stay tuned for info on that.
