Today, we’re excited to share with you the first episode of a special new series called Book Keeper.

It’s hosted by Megan Phelps-Roper, who grew up in one of the most infamous religious communities in America: the Westboro Baptist Church. When she left in her mid-twenties, she lost nearly everything — her family, her faith, and the stories that once explained the world to her.

But now, more than a decade later, Megan is returning to those stories — not to poke holes or to reclaim belief, but to ask harder questions: What wisdom from the Bible is worth keeping? What lessons should be left behind?

In this series, Megan revisits the biblical stories that shaped her childhood. She reads them with the keen eye of a nonbeliever and the soft heart of a woman who wouldn’t be who she is without their comfort and moral instruction.

She’s also a mother now, so as she sifts through some of the oldest stories we have, she looks at what timeless truths they can teach us about humanity and wonders what she wants to pass down to her daughter.

Megan’s story is singular, but the questions she asks are universal.
