Monique Erickson · LONESOME

The People’s Pottery Project1 is an organization providing meaningful employment and community support to women, trans and non-binary formerly incarcerated peoples through their non-profit ceramic collective. In my first two-minute conversation with founder Domonique Perkins, I learned that 90% of anti-recidivism funds go to men. They're competing for an important grant, LA2050, and you can vote for them here. They’re also fundraising for new potter’s wheels through their instagram.

Ugo Rondinone in his NYC studio photographed by Ilka Scobie

Luigi Cazzaniga and Jordan Galland will screen films this Wednesday March 26th at Neue House. Cazzaniga will screen A River View, his road movie about Ugo Rondinone’s retrospective Cry Me A River last year in Lucerne, Switzerland; Galland will screen his first movie, the horror film ‘Smile for the Camera’. It’s the film’s 20th anniversary and several cast members including one of my very favorite humans on earth will attend to participate in the Q & A after the film. Galland and Sean Lennon composed the score, and the theme song is sung by Domino and Jemima Kirk.

The Frick Collection

Today I’m attending the press preview for The Frick Collection, following a years long renovation, with masterful art writer and fave poet Ilka Scobie. I cannot quite explain the dissonance I felt a few years back at ‘the Frick’ in the Whitney on Madison Avenue. This was not the Frick. This was the Whitney. All New Yorkers accept constant change, and every corner haunts us with what came before. Nevertheless I am thrilled to return to original Frick Collection.

Lizzie Simon has told me to write for 20 minutes a day since I was 19 years old. I spent early January of this year in Santa Rosa on the Sonoma County’s Writers Retreat that Lizzie leads. The experience was incredibly generative and restorative, and everything a writer could hope for in community with other writers. Lizzie teaches a powerful memoir class once a year, for 7 weeks beginning next month. You’ll learn the nuts and bolts of writing and publishing, with guest authors Deborah Taffa, Lucy Sante, Sari Botton and Manjula Martin. (On Zoom, Seven Wednesdays, 1pm-2:30pm EST, April 23 to June 4). You could even end up hanging with one of your television heroes turned taxi angel.2
