Lindsey Beth Meyers · Lonely Pony

It’s been July. Here it is. Watch it turn to smoke, then clouds, then discolored air. There it goes.

July has been generally stifling and unpleasant, but I do believe we are turning a corner! I feel that something mighty is on its merry, marauding way. I feel a new push of energy, possibly brought on by the impending end of the season. Now is the time to perch under the oak tree and feel the hot sun on my shoulders. Now is the time to walk along the beach, stare at the cruise ships as they slumber beneath the pale grey haze laid against the horizon. Now is the time to drive down main street with the windows down, let my music mix with everyone else’s — the teens, the retirees, the visiting mee-mees.

Autumn will button up soon enough. School will be in session, and grown-ups will return from their long slumber and settle into their cubicles. They will zip their quarter-zips. They’ll drop a roast in the Crockpot. Dust off the cider candles. They’ll shutter the windows and start smoking in ever-brief sucks in the blue afternoon.

Did it always get this dark this early?

Yes, believe so.

I very much look forward to that.

In the meantime, a little retrospective on a month spent working, wheeling, and whining (but also wining).
