The life of a philosopher is beset by many dangers. Indeed many who embark on the path of philosophy, fall away for one reason or another. For my own part, I am grateful that I have never tired of philosophy; indeed, I have never lost my love for learning. I count this a great blessing. In saying, this I do not pretend to never weary of this or that question or problem; nor am I unaware of the shortcomings of academia. At the same time, I heartily endorse and approve both philosophy as a way of life and philosophy as an academic discipline — both the love of learning for its own sake, and the learning that takes place in institutions of higher learning. There are few better ways to spend a life than wrapped up with learning.
