Still gearing back into regularly scheduled programming here, but in the interim I wanted to write briefly about releasing new work and the feelings of vulnerability that come with it.
Over the past few months, HELD IN FORM has come taken shape (pun intended): slowly building up an audience with 100K+ views and counting, and gearing up to debut our first collection across multiple stores and online.
All of this admittedly feeling vulnerable. The ideas I’ve held close to both my brain and heart now lives outside of me, and are no longer purely mine to tinker with endlessly. Expectations always come with making things into reality. It’s terrifying really.
And I’ve missed this, so so much. Equal parts of catharsis and adrenaline, jumping off the proverbial cliff was always my favourite part of creative work. I’ve never bought into the narrative of the isolated artist, working in solitude. Instead, I’ve always stood on the belief that the best ideas only came to life once they were birthed into the outside world, instead of laying dead scribbled in the back of a notebook.
So here’s to coming back to my roots. A return to form, if you will.
In theme, I knew early on I wanted to debut HELD IN FORM’s first collection in Edmonton. It was the first community to really uplift and support my work, so it was always going to be a part of this new chapter.
So for my local friends, please join me and the team next month at our Launch Party and Pop-Up next month at FOOSH Downtown.
RSVP to the Launch Party here.
Held in Form is a menswear label and design education platform.
