Tomorrow is Tuesday, another Catch a Sketch✏️ day! We’re half a dozen weekly sessions in and slowly getting into the rhythm - thank you so much to those who’ve joined me so far, I’m looking forward to meeting many more!
From now on I will try to announce the theme of each session in advance so you can get your sketchbooks ready and your pencils warmed up. I recently bought a beautiful book, Tell Your Dog I Love Them, by Harriet Lowther, it’s a collection of her dog sketches and it’s simply fabulous (Lisa, my Jack Russell mix, agrees 😊)!
Flipping through the book I felt an instant urge to sketch some dogs and did a few colour pencil sketches;
I found that the less time I let myself spend drawing each dog (from 12 down to 3 minutes), the more character the resulting sketch had. I also think I could be braver and use more varied materials to achieve more spontaneity.
For tomorrow Catch a Sketch session, Tuesday 23rd at 10h CET (10 AM Paris time, 9 AM London time), we’ll continue drawing dogs but will progressively limit the time spent and also mix and match different sketching materials and have fun experimenting with shapes and expressions - we’ll use some of Harriet’s sketches as inspiration on how to use bold shadows, frame a subject with an expressive colour or play with different types and colours of sketching paper.
