A feast of flavour with a whole lot of fibre that we know we all need a lot more of thank you very much

As many of you are mothers, I realise these may be just what you need for the weekend, I’m happy to make caked for myself but if not pass this on.

But the facial that restored my faith in non-surgical manoeuvres to really lift and de-jowl at a point in Feb when I was feeling utterly droopy on all fronts. The photographic evidence backs me up rather too effectively.

I first put together a new take on a Carrot Cake to coincide with the launch of my cookbook which came out this week in 2017. And 9 years ago there was some interest in dialling down the sugar but no-one was focussed on protein or fibre. So I was thrilled to crunch the numbers on this recipe today and see that it was punching high on these, I did a tweak to it on testing it again this week and here you have it. All I want from a Nutty, citrus sponge that happens to be called Carrot.

No-one would imagine this orange spiced cake boasted some real health heroics:

  • 4g of fibre per slice

  • 10 plants

  • 1/2 the total sugar content of a regualr Carrot Cake recipe

Last month I tried it out and whilst I was there for the Teeth grinding release - I had no idea how much that would lift and sculpt my face.

I have been researching all the ways to help with teeth grinding and jaw clenching - both of which I suffer from and which I have been efficiently crushing my back teeth with. So much so that the last dentist I saw recommended Botox in the jaw to prevent the overworked muscle from repeating this action.

I have read up on all the ways to relieve this, and whilst the paralysing of the muscle is an obvious way, it is also a surefire way of weakening this muscle and those around it, as well as adding toxins to the system that I have so far resisted.

This is when I discovered that Rebecca had created this treatment, doing it differently at Bhuti - Bingham Riverside in Richmond.

“a treatment that lifts and sculpts your face created by Rebecca the Bhuti resident facialist - Her extensive training in innovative lymphatic skin brushing and intraoral buccal massage has been used to create a unique facial concept that helps lift and release. A bespoke hot poultice combines a unique mix of herbs and spices to reduce inflammation and enhance the skin’s moisture and texture.”

Facials are often a disappointment for me. I have not succumbed to the lure of the needles and knives (yet) and so when I splurge over £100 on a face treatment it is with perhaps overblown expectations.

Often that hour ends up being a few machines whirring away over my face on autopilot and maybe a mask plonked on while the practitioner leaves the you with 80s pan pipes, and a growing frustration of the to do list you forsook for this.

Ladies (and gentlemen) I am thrilled to let you in on a new treatment I was invited to try the other day that is just a different offering entirely. And that I impress upon you to treat yourself or someone to. It is astounding.

A truly bespoke treatment that facialist Rebecca who was my practitioner (of the most healing hands) has spent 25 years perfecting. From arrival in the cocoon like space with fur throws and herbal teas your face is assessed and tour requirements discussed.

“In response to the demand for transformative results without the need for aesthetics bhuti has created a hi-tec holistic facial the, bhuti facelift ritual.”

I was loathe to even take these before pics, let alone share them, but in the name of research and reality you need to see just what Rebecca’s magical hands alone can do to renew your face with her blissful 75 minute facial. A combination of lymphatic drainage, into-oral massage and healing herbs for astonishing results.

“A jaw unwind with some skin de-puff, de-droop and glow up” was the tall order requested by me. And miraculously I think she outdid this.

The hour and a half was also a treat from start to finish - even the worry about the internal mouth massage was needless - it felt as satisfying as a shoulder massage and was the only part of the event that wasn't an almost asleep dreamscape. The cleansing and toning, the steamy herbal poultice and painted on cooling masks were blissful, then a full head and shoulder massage and I slipped off for the next bit so I am not sure what was next, but by then there was no lists ticker taping away in my mind.

The whole experience was a perfect pampering, with the bonus of wildly stark results! I had a dewy, polished glow immediately that lasted a week, and you can see the jowl lift in the pictures. I wasn’t sure if ‘facelift’ was an overblown claim, but the lift was very clear and no needles or incisions required.

The Backdrop of Bingham Riverside means you can then glide downstairs and enjoy trout and samphire or similar for lunch overlooking the river and retain some of the calm you have scooped up from upstairs.

RETINAL

Using encapsulated retinal (not retinol) this is a fabulous new discovery I am using every night having found that I am too sensitive for the regular version. This is effective at smoothing and promoting collagen for even the most highly sensitised skins. From an epigenetic focussed brand whose founder is the first to complete endocrine disruption tests on all her products.

Retinal without Irritation

SPRING CLEAN PANS

The most messaged about are these pans - if you need an excuse to gift yourself and your family less of the PFAs now we know how they impact our health, this is the moment.

Nonstick PFAs free Pan

EVERYDAY SEED SPRINKLES

I thought these were a fad that I could make myself, but I have tried them out after a Fibre Festival they held the other day and I can concur that the effect is regular and real! They are the perfect yoghurt sprinkle I am adding into my day.

Fibre Max-ing Mix

If you’d like to have a look at all the Spring freshen up things I have been loving this is where I have my little shop:

This is perfectly orangey and spicy with a lovely rich, almond infused sponge and a creamy, zesty icing, I think you’ll take a shine to it. As mentioned already - but worth ramming home the point - there is a holy amount of fruit, nuts and vegetables within it’s cake-shaped being, almost an entire carrot per slice, so unlike a bought cake or a regular recipe, consider this your fibre rich finisher that would make the perfect Mother’s Day treat for the mother figure in your life.

I also implore you to send this on to someone likely to make it for you, do so here:
