Poiesis, is an interesting ancient Greek idea which loosely means “bringing forth and giving shape to something hidden, imagined, or felt.” This term reminds me of the Italian painter & sculptor Michelangelo who had once famously said “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”

The desire to imagine and create fascinates me. That we create from our curiosity, emotions, and from our beliefs seems like a miracle to me.

Through creative acts, something that was invisible to the world finds expression and a space to exist. To create is to be willing to explore the unknown, to discover and to explore. Creating in every sense is metamorphosing an idea.

As creators we do not bring forth only reality, we imagine a moment and then recreate it from our thoughts or experience. Through art, ordinary experiences get new meanings; forgotten moments become memorable; and personal emotions become public human experiences.

The ability to create gives us the conviction that we have it in us to give the world something new. It also endorses the fact that the world can absorb stories and diverse perspectives when ideas become language and emotions take form.

Creating at its core is a fundamental human need, a longing to derive meaning from something. Creating involves diving deep into one’s inner world and presenting something to the world which would otherwise remain unseen. A magical process that is gratifying in every way.

Thank you for reading and for being here.
