Jose Mourinho makes Endrick transfer stance clear after Liverpool enquiry for Real Madrid star

Liverpool reportedly enquired about Endrick's availability earlier this summer after the Real Madrid forward spent the second half of last season out on loan

Jose Mourinho has admitted many clubs have enquired about signing Endrick this summer, following rumoured interest from Liverpool, but insists he has no intention of letting the Brazilian leave Real Madrid.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Lyon, scoring eight goals from 21 appearances after being limited to just three appearances during the first half of the season at the Bernabeu.

The Times reported last week that Liverpool had asked about the availability of the forward only to be told Real Madrid were not looking to let him leave, while ESPN have reported Endrick himself wishes to fight for his place at the Spanish giants.

Mourinho has now confirmed a number of clubs were interested in signing the forward, but has closed the door to the possibility of Endrick departing - either on loan or permanently - this summer.

“He is a player I like very much,” he told reporters. “One who has attracted interest from many clubs wanting him either on loan or via a permanent transfer.

“I didn’t want to loan him out or sell him because I enjoy working with this young player who possesses significant talent…

“For me, the squad closed, but with the market still open, you never know what might happen.

“You don’t know if a player will come to you and say they want to leave because you’ve benched them for two consecutive matches.

“I see everyone very involved and with a great sense of unity, but it’s something that can always happen.

“I don’t know if the president or Jose Angel might call to say we have an incredible offer for a player.

“In my mind, the squad is closed, and I don’t have any requests. I’m very happy with the players I have.

“If someone leaves now, I wouldn’t be happy. I’d like to keep this squad for the entire season.”
