America's Small Towns and Suburbs Are About To Get A Lot More Diverse

Donald Trump has twice campaigned promising to keep “low-income” housing from entering suburbs and rural areas.

Last weekend, the president betrayed his voters once again by refusing to either sign or veto the 21st Century Road to Housing Act. This allowed the bill seeking to build state-subsidized favelas in suburban and rural locations, passed by huge majorities in both parties, to automatically become law.

The Road to Housing law is a collection of 56 sweeping provisions purporting to massively expand available housing drawn up by a bipartisan marriage of Reaganites (French Hill) and “Woke” Democrats (Maxine Waters) in the House, along with Tim Scott and Elizabeth Warren in the Senate.

Major reforms include the repeal of several environmental and design regulations that white middle class homeowners have historically relied on to block low-income (read: minority) housing in their communities, mandates the expansion of small-dollar lending and minority-owned community banks (traditionally more likely to finance questionable mortgages), substantially increases available Section 8 vouchers (a federal subsidy that pays private landlords on behalf of low income tenets), and directs real estate corporations and hedge funds — who are banned from buying single-family houses under the bill — to build apartment complexes that are only for rent instead.

The law pays special attention to increasing coordination between HUD and the USDA’s Rural Housing Service to ensure that applications for new housing development are drastically accelerated in rural areas.

NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) homeowners in the countryside often cite “preserving the rural aesthetic” of homes as reasons for shutting down the construction of new housing. The Road to Housing Act takes their coded language literally and calls for the design of new homes to blend in with the “rural aesthetic,” as well as ending older requirements for houses to have a chassis.

The predictable outcome of these reforms will be the enrichment of slumlords, who will be charging the federal government top dollar in Section 8 vouchers to transplant groups of blacks and Mexicans in ever more remote white communities. Families who rely on their home’s value as their main source of equity will also suffer, as the problems brought by these new populations could require increases in taxes combined with plummeting property values. White people who do not want to worry about violence when their kids play outside or go to school are going to be in for an unpleasant surprise when this stealthily passed bill starts to bear fruit.

Internal migration patterns show that Americans in recent years have been moving further and further out into the boonies. Inner ring suburbs, the original destination for those trying to get away from urban minorities, have been diversified in recent decades and subsequently seen their white populations flee to the middle of nowhere. The racial politics of Black Lives Matter, the explosion in violent crime that followed the pandemic, and the high cost of living in major cities combined with work-from-home jobs have emptied the metro areas of New York and California of middle-class white people seeking more affordable, safer, whiter pastures to raise their families.

According to the last census, America as a whole is now 57% white and most of its major cities are majority-minority, yet outer ring suburbs and rural areas remain 80%+ white. Professionals with laptop jobs have been escaping to the country and those with practical trades they can take anywhere have been following them. This was done quietly and without much fanfare, but real estate corporations and the federal government have noticed.

The Road to Housing Act will also not improve the well-being of minorities, only harm the interests of white people. Local zoning laws in densely populated urban areas where most blacks and other minorities currently live and would like to remain are not addressed in the new law, meaning that the housing supply will be just as limited as before in big cities while the expansion of financing for home buyers will locally increase demand, causing prices in crowded urban areas to rise and continue to push minorities out of their communities.

All the new law does is guarantee that waiting for them in the exurbs will be freshly minted “Kushnervilles” subsidized by federal dollars in quiet and peaceful white residential communities (which research has shown typically increases interracial crime), making Trump’s inner circle of Jewish real estate moguls wealthier at the expense of everybody else.
