The bed canopy is nothing new. It has been sheltering its inhabitants from insects, draughts and marauding hoards for centuries. In more recent times they were perhaps looked upon as overly fussy and a tad trad. They fell out of style with anyone who didn’t own a crumbling stately home or a Tuscan villa as people looked to a more modern aesthetic and perhaps a few less moths, but the tides have been changing.
Over the past 5 or so years there seems to have been a resurgence in a decadent bed dressing. Whether that is offensively large bespoke head boards, folk styled box beds or you guessed it ……canopies.
I am definitely part of the aforementioned group as I fully embraced the cocooning effects of draped fabric in the master bedroom at Little Mill Abergavenny.
Whether your style is minimal and modern or antique and eclectic this ancient form of bed dressing can bring drama, elegance or simply a soft touch to your interior.
This week is therefor dedicated to all things canopy. From the grand to the barely there, there is an option for you.
