Kunti (कुन्ति), a young woman in Hastinapura (हस्तिनापुर), held a profound secret. She had a gift from the renowned sage Durvasa (मुनि दुर्वासः) that permitted her to pray to any God and bear a child with celestial blessings. Kunti resolved to put the boon to the test, driven by her innocence and curiosity.

She invoked the sun God, Surya (सूर्य देव), who appeared in all his glorious majesty. Entranced, Kunti lost sight of society conventions and the implications of her behaviour. The sun God gifted her with a kid, but this miraculous gift came at a high cost. Kunti, who was still single, had to deal with the shame and cultural pressures that come with being an unwed mother.

Kunti, fearing the consequences, placed her newborn boy in a basket and set him afloat on the river. The infant, destined for glory, was born with holy armour and earrings on his skin. He was discovered and adopted by a charioteer and his wife, who named him Karna (कर्णः).

Karna grew up determined to create his own path, rejecting his adoptive father's lowly vocation. He sought out the legendary warrior-sage Dronacharya (द्रोणाचार्यः) and hoped to study archery. However, Dronacharya's tutelage was reserved for the nobles, and Karna's modest beginnings rendered him an outcast.

Undaunted, Karna sought out the great sage Parashurama (ऋषिः परशुरामः), who was known for his exceptional fighting prowess. Karna, disguised as a Brahmin, acquired Parashurama's trust and became his disciple. Karna developed into an exceptional warrior under Parashurama's instruction.

But fate had different intentions. Karna was attacked by a flesh-eating worm while Parashuram slept on Karna's lap. Despite the agony, Karna stayed quiet, refusing to disturb his master. When Parashurama awoke, he noticed Karna's injured leg and realised he had been duped.

Enraged, Parashurama cursed Karna, foreshadowing a fate that would torment him indefinitely. Can you guess the curse that Parashurama placed on Karna? Please share your ideas in the comments below!
