The Fall Stewardship Retreat replay is below—but first, one woman’s breakthrough perfectly captures why we have to discern before we plan.
We just wrapped up our Fall Stewardship Retreat, and shortly afterward I received a voice message from one of the women who joined us live.
She told me she had spent much of this past year trying to hold onto everything she had been doing before her life changed—and simply add her new responsibilities on top.
Podcast.
Coaching.
Book.
Courses.
Client work.
Ministry.
Family.
All good things.
And because she could do all of those things in a previous season, she kept asking herself some version of:
How can I squeeze everything I want to do into right now?
Sound familiar?
That’s exactly why I didn’t want today’s Retreat to become another fall planning session.
Because before we ask:
Where can I fit it?
There’s a more important stewardship question:
As she worked through the Seasonal Stewardship Reset™ today, something shifted.
She realized that two of the things she’d been carrying didn’t need to disappear.
They simply didn’t need to happen now.
She could move the book and courses into not now without deciding never.
And suddenly she had room to give her time, focus and attention to the two things that really did belong in this season.
What struck me most was how she described what happened next.
She essentially said:
I don’t feel burdened anymore. I feel excited again.
THAT is why this work matters.
Not so we can become better at cramming everything into our calendars.
Not so we can squeeze a little more productivity out of ourselves.
But so we can recognize that different seasons require different stewardship.
Something can be good.
Something can matter.
Something can even be part of what God has called you to do.
And still be:
Sometimes the faithful decision isn’t figuring out how to do more.
It’s releasing what doesn’t belong yet so you can faithfully tend what does.
If you've been trying to figure out how to fit it all in, maybe the first question isn't where it fits. Maybe it's whether it belongs in this season at all.
