Strange? Weather?

One standard ice-breaker is to talk about the weather; even so, doing so is somehow subject to ridicule. Weather, however, is safe, relatable, and often predictable, and sometimes unpredictable. Now, our cell phones conveniently tell us not only the actual temperature outside but also how that temperature feels. I guess the cell phone is making itself self, relatable, and both predictable and unpredictable.

In Alaska, the weather is even a curated experience. So, of course, I had to go into the room that was 40 degrees below. You only stay in there for a short time because the people running the place don’t want the participants to get hypothermia.

I think I was so cold in that room that I was numb, because it didn’t feel all that cold. When I saw the photo of me snapped in the room, I realized I had been so cold that my stick-straight hair frizzled and my bottom lip started to fall off my face.

At least, exiting the room after the allotted time kept me safe, my hair remained frazzled, but my bottom lip reappeared in the proper place as I appeared in the next photo opportunity at the tourist place.

There are occasionally severe winter storms in Oklahoma. Once, my entire neighborhood was left without electricity for more than a week due to the havoc of a winter storm. I don’t have a generator, so there were times when I had to get my car out of the garage, then turn on the heater to get warm while I sat in my car without going anywhere. The streets were still too icy to drive anywhere.

Now, the weather today (March 29, 2026) is expected to reach 80 degrees. How’s the weather where you are? Please let me know in the comments.
