Recently, I have been feeling an overwhelming urge to disseminate the skills, knowledge, and wisdom I’ve gathered in death work.
I am by no means an “expert”… but can anyone be? Death is a mystery and regardless of the hours you clock, each experience can hold new teachings.
I actually think we all already hold innate expertise on death, we have a cellular memory of how it goes. What is needed, etc.
What we need support with is how to show up in a culture that has so many distortions and limitations layered on top of the natural process.
These distortions and limitations make it hard to feel that natural expertise.
Many people feel drawn to this work because of that innate wisdom, a remembering and knowing of that natural order of things, but then have no idea where to start or what the actual need is in their communities.
That area, is one thing I have explored a lot over the last four years. My work has taken many expressions from 1:1 work, to group work, community education events, supporting other doulas in mentoring and training, working with hospices, offering support in grief, etc. I’ve experimented with this in-person and online.
What I have realized is that one of the hardest parts is taking the first steps in deciding what we want to offer, how to structure it, and how to present it to our communities.
Taking a training is the easy part.
The real work begins in crafting your offering and sharing it, even when no one has ever heard of what you do.
When no one shows up to your events.
When people don’t see the value in your services until it’s too late.
I honestly just want to help people in all of that.
I want people to start taking the steps and learn along the way.
This kit is a first step in that journey for me.
& I hope it is a first (or next) step in that journey for you!
